Bobby Lashley may face some difficulties returning to WWE if he does return from Impact Wrestling.
Lashley has been one of the main event superstars in Impact Wrestling for nearly a decade, enjoying a much better tenure there than he ever had in the WWE. however, there has been speculation that the 41-year-old is interested in returning to Vince McMahon‘s promotion.
But according to Dave Meltzter of Wrestling Observer Radio (subscription required), Lashley may have troubles getting back to the WWE. While he expects fellow Impact star Ethan Carter III to head over to WWE, Meltzer said “there was a lot of bitterness,” when Lashley left the company “on both sides,” 10 years ago.
When Lashley left the WWE in 2008, there were reports about him having a rough working relationship with official Michael Hayes. It got so bad that Lashley had to move from SmackDown (where Hayes was working), over to the ECW brand in 2006. With Hayes still working in WWE, the “bitterness” probably won’t go away anytime soon.
A veteran wrestler with a strong background in MMA, Lashley won two ECW Championships and one United States title in the WWE. He was never more than a mid-card wrestler, however, and moved over to TNA in 2009. There, Lashley became one of the biggest main event stars, winning four Impact World Heavyweight Championships and feuding with the Main Event Mafia alliance.
Lashley left TNA in 2010, looking to pursue a career in MMA while also competing in the independent circuit, but returned to Impact Wrestling in 2014, where he has since remained.
Yet, despite all of the bitterness with Hayes, Lashley could make amends and eventually join the WWE. The likes of Hulk Hogan, Brock Lesnar, Goldberg, and Bret Hart have come back despite leaving the company under bitter circumstances. If Vince McMahon believes a superstar can make him some money, he’ll bring him back. This is a story to keep a close eye on.
