The Wrestling Observer Newsletter is reporting that Impact Wrestling stars Lashley and Ethan Carter III are leaving once their contracts are up with the company.
The belief is that at least one and possibly both of them could end up signing with WWE, according to Wrestling Observer (subscription required).
“The expectation is that Bobby Lashley and Ethan Carter III will leave when their contracts are up, and one or both will end up with WWE.”
It's easy to say that both Lashley and Ethan Carter III have been two of the most important wrestlers for Impact over the past two years. The 41-year-old Lashley is also an MMA fighter and has won the TNA/Impact Heavyweight Championship four times over the past few years. He also spent time with WWE from 2004-2008 and managed to win the United States Championship.
Like Lashley, Carter also spent time with WWE as a member of their developmental company Florida Championship Wrestling, as well as NXT. He left in 2013 and worked on the independent circuit. He then signed with TNA/Impact later that year.
If Lashley does want another run in WWE, he'd have to put his MMA career on hold as there's no way WWE would let him compete while under contract. This would be a huge blow to Bellator, but considering Lashley's age, he might not be long for the world of shoot-fighting anyway.
Both Lashley and Ethan Carter III are definitely better wrestlers than when they were first with WWE, so it will be interesting to see how they use them, depending on who signs on of course.
With two of their top stars leaving, it makes us wonder whether Impact is headed downhill. Their ratings have been going down and they just relocated to Canada, likely in order to save money. This is a tough blow for a company that can only dream of competing with WWE since they've already lost stars like AJ Styles, Samoa Joe, and Bobby Roode in the past.
Comment below and give us your thoughts on both Carter and Lashley possibly coming back to WWE.
