While they've not always been booked perfectly, the Women's Tag Team Championships have been an excellent addition to WWE's product in recent years. It has allowed great teams like Bayley and Sasha Banks and The IIconics to thrive, and added a totally different dynamic to the women's division.

However, while the women of today are able to fight over the titles, there have been some great tag teams in the past that never had that luxury. While there were no titles in the past, there have been some great teams who would have made for excellent champions, but simply never got the chance to compete in a genuine women's tag team division.

10 LayCool

LayCool

LayCool was an amazing and genuine tag team that really would have thrived as Women's Tag Team Champions if the titles had existed back then. Michelle McCool and Layla brought the best out in each other, and were very effective when it came to gaining heel heat.

While they shared the Women's Championship, they would have been a tremendous duo holding the Women's Tag Team Titles. They just had such good chemistry both in the ring and on the microphone, and bringing that together could have created something very special if the titles were around.

9 AJ Lee & Paige

AJ Lee and Paige were two very strong singles wrestlers who stood out from the rest of the roster due to their gimmicks. However, that led to them coming together as rivals who became friends, and that's a storyline that would have suited the Women's Tag Team Championships.

They competed at WrestleMania 31 together as a tag team and really had great chemistry. While they might have ended up turning on each other and feuding, they would certainly have brought a huge amount of star power to the titles.

8 Alexa Bliss & Mickie James

When Mickie James first returned to WWE, she did so working alongside Alexa Bliss. The two of them were a great heel force together, but their run came just before the Women's Tag Team Championships were created.

They could have been a really good pairing together as Women's Tag Team Champions, especially with the character work, which both of these women excel at. James' status as a legend would have added credibility to the gold as well, while adding to her legacy.

7 Divas Of Doom

While Natalya and Beth Phoenix did reunite to challenge for the Women's Tag Team Championships at WrestleMania 35, that was only done for the sake of nostalgia and star power on the show.

However, during their run together on the main roster, the titles simply didn't exist, which is a real shame. Natalya and Phoenix could have been really dominant as champions, and considering how good their work was inside the ring, it would have led to some amazing matches.

6 Emma & Dana Brooke

The partnership between Emma and Dana Brooke is one that is often forgotten about, but it was very underrated. When Emma returned to NXT and started working as a heel, she took Dana under her wing and acted as her mentor, leading to the two of them becoming a very annoying duo.

Dana really added to Emma's character, helping her cheat to get victories on a consistent basis. Had there been the Women's Tag Team Titles during that period, they really could have created something special, adding to NXT overall.

5 Vince's Devils

The group which consisted of Torrie Wilson, Candice Michelle, and Victoria may not always have been booked brilliantly, but had there been some genuine Women's Tag Teams fighting for the championships, that might have been different.

All three women were very talented wrestlers and the gimmick, which was a knock-off of Charlie's Angels, would have been a lot more intriguing had there been some titles that they could've chased. Their status in the company at the time would also have ensured a significant spotlight on the championships as well.

4 The Chickbusters

AJ Lee and Kaitlyn were known for being genuine best friends, and because of that their chemistry really radiated on-screen. That is what made The Chickbusters perfect for a strong reign as the Women's Tag Team Champions.

They had very different in-ring styles, but that is perfect for tag team wrestling, as they could shake things up a little. They would have been a huge babyface team if the titles had been around at that time, and they would have really made the titles feel important.

3 The Funkadactyls

Naomi and Cameron as The Funkadactyls

Even though Naomi and Cameron were initially brought in just as part of Brodus Clay's act, the two of them ended up becoming the big stars of the group. They had loads of energy and in the ring, they worked really well together.

Putting the Women's Tag Team Championships on them would have made real sense, as they'd have been great babyface champions. Their athletic in-ring style could create a lot of fun matches, and as a genuine team, they're exactly what the division would have needed.

2 Team Bestie

Trish Stratus and Lita were great rivals, but they were also great friends. As a result of the huge star power that they had, a genuine tag team run could have been a huge deal for them.

They would no doubt have dominated the title scene in a similar manner to how Bayley and Sasha Banks have in the past, working together and eventually, turning on each other. They would have elevated everybody else, which could have been something truly special.

1 The Bella Twins

When it comes to the best tag team that deserved to have a Women's Tag Team Championship run, The Bella Twins really are the best example. Together, Nikki and Brie have obvious chemistry, and their characters, either as heels or babyfaces just worked perfectly.

In the ring, they always managed to engage the crowd and a run with the titles would have suited them really well. They've both expressed a desire to possibly return and win the titles in the future though, which would be a fitting way to end their wrestling careers.
