When it comes to championships in wrestling, it is commonly expected that only the very best actually get their hands on them. This is because top wrestlers are the ones who put on the best matches, have the most convincing storylines, and typically sell the most merchandise.

However, every now and then, a jobber manages to sneak through the cracks and creates a major upset by winning a title. It always causes a lot of talk in the wrestling world and it is often a lot of fun when booked correctly, even if it is totally unexpected and doesn't always last that long.

10 Leon Ruff

Leon Ruff wins the North American Championship

The most recent example of a jobber winning a championship came in NXT when Leon Ruff shocked the world and defeated Johnny Gargano to become the North American Champion. Nobody saw this moment coming, but it has certainly been a lot of fun to see.

Gargano brought out Ruff as his first opponent to defend the title against as a joke, doing so because Ruff was so beatable. However, he shocked everyone by earning a surprise victory, which was even more shocking because jobbers winning titles in NXT has never happened before.

9 Santino Marella

Santino Marella

Santino Marella was an incredible jobber, in WWE who was able to have a lot of fun, but still beloved by the fans. However, when he managed to get his hands on the United States Championship, fans were left very surprised.

While his Intercontinental Championship win on his debut was also a shock, that came with help from Bobby Lashley and he hadn't been established as a jobber. However, by the time he won the US Title, fans didn't expect him to be a champion, which led to a big surprise. Although Santino had often been used as a comedic jobber, this win was actually well-deserved, considering how he proved his worth by taking Daniel Bryan to the limit inside the Elimination Chamber in 2012, being the very last wrestler eliminated.

8 Jillian Hall

Jllian Hall

The Divas Championship was held by some of the greatest women's wrestlers of all time. The likes of Paige, AJ Lee, and Michelle McCool were all fantastic wrestlers who helped make this title feel important.

However, Jillian Hall was a name that nobody expected to win the gold. She had traditionally been a jobber in the women's division, mainly used in a comedic fashion.

7 Heath Slater

Heath Slater and Rhyno

When Heath Slater first came into WWE, he was pushed as a top name as part of Nexus. However, throughout his career, Slater slipped down into being a jobber, getting brought out to put other wrestlers over, including losing for weeks on end to old WWE legends.

However, after not being picked up on the WWE Draft, Slater ended up pushing for a contract and then earned a tag team run with Rhyno. To the surprise of everyone, that duo then went all the way and became the first-ever SmackDown Tag Team Champions.

6 Curt Hawkins

Curt HAWKINS

Curt Hawkins, much like Heath Slater, had points in his career when he was a big deal. His run as the Edgeheads was a great spell when he and Zack Ryder were a top tag team at the time. However, when they won the Tag Team Titles again at WrestleMania 35, it was to the shock of everyone.

The main reason for that is because Curt Hawkins had actually been on the longest losing streak in WWE history. He took the concept of being a jobber to a whole other level, which made his title win such a shock.

5 Mike Kanellis

Mike Kanellis

When Mike Kanellis first signed with WWE, nobody expected him to be a jobber as he was such a big star on the independent scene and with Ring Of Honor. However, that is how things ended up transpiring, often being used to put over other stars.

However, he did manage to claim a championship reign during his career, picking up the 24/7 Championship during his time. It's a title that a lot of the undercard stars have been able to win, but it was still a surprise to see him hold the title.

4 Funaki

Funaki might be SmackDown's #1 commentator, but he was certainly a jobber for the vast majority of his in-ring career. However, that didn't stop him from having a run with the Cruiserweight Championship during his time in WWE.

Funaki was also a Hardcore Champion, although his run with that title didn't even last 24 hours, which was the nature of the belt at that point in time, with lots of quick and forgettable reigns.

3 Hornswoggle

Hornswoggle

Speaking of jobbers who held the Cruiserweight Championship, Hornswoggle is another wrestler who held that title. He was mainly used throughout his career as a comedic character and was never taken overly seriously by fans as an in-ring talent.

Therefore when he won the Cruiserweight Championship there was a lot of genuine surprise. His storyline with Chavo Guerrero was a ridiculous one though, which actually resulted in the title being retired for several years.

2 Jinder Mahal

Jinder Mahal WWE Champion

It might seem insane that a jobber would not only win a title but win the WWE Championship, however that is what happened with Jinder Mahal. While he might have gone on to break out of being a jobber, when he became WWE Champion, that is what he was.

There's a reason people were so stunned by him becoming champion, with fans being totally shocked at how random things were. Nobody saw it coming and the fact he was always being beaten prior to this title win is why nobody cared for it.

1 Gillberg

Gillberg WWE

The entire purpose of Gillberg's character was for him to be a jobber who always lost matches. It was WWE's way of mocking Goldberg and the fact he was part of the J.O.B Squad made it clear WWE had no big plans for him.

Gillberg served his purpose and always made his opponents look great. However, he did manage to get a brief run with the Light Heavyweight Championship after defeating Christian, which caused a huge surprise.
