Maria Menounos says she had a chance to compete on the 2015 season of "Tough Enough," but instead suggested someone who is now a current WWE star.

On the latest episode of WWE Backstage, Menounos talked about her relationship with Sonya Deville and how the wrestler was a host on Afterbuzz TV prior to joining WWE.

Maria then claims that during a meeting years ago with people at USA Network, she was asked to be one of the contestants on the 2015 edition of "Tough Enough."

"I was like, 'I don't think I can do this, but I know who can. And who would be amazing.' And we pitched the idea of [Sonya] coming on," Menounos said before explaining her husband talked to Sonya afterward to convince her to transition from MMA to pro wrestling.

"I might think I'm tough enough, but I don't think I can hang guys," Maria added.

Sonya, real name Daria Berenato, was ultimately cast on the show but did not win. She and fellow cast member/runner-up Mandy Rose were both signed to WWE, however, and the two have now come full circle by feuding on SmackDown at the moment.
