Once WrestleMania season is over, WWE shifts its attention towards the biggest party of the summer which will be taking place in Toronto this year. As it remains a few months away, it's still early to unfold all plans for the iconic event although rumors have been surfing around the web for recent weeks.
With new Champions being crowned at WrestleMania, there is plenty of interest among fans regarding their booking going into the summer. Based on current WWE feuds and bookings, as well as various reports in recent times, we have compiled a list of 10 matches that could happen at WWE SummerSlam 2019!
Coming from NXT, The Revival had the wrestling world intrigued by their transition to the main roster. It hasn't always gone as ideal as possible with some missteps along the way, but The Revival were still able to pick up the Raw Tag Team Championship.
More recently, the company has began teasing a feud between them and The USOS - which may very well lead to a match at SummerSlam. The current Raw champs of Curt Hawkins and Zack Ryder would likely drop the belts to one of these two teams at some point to make it a title match at the event.
WrestleMania 35 was highlighted by an epic crowning moment when Kofi Kingston defeated Daniel Bryan for the WWE Championship. Fans had hoped to see the feud continue beyond the event, but an injury to Bryan has put him out of action - leaving Kingston without a challenger for the title.
It's very possible that Bryan will use his rematch clause for SummerSlam once he returns to full health since the first match generated enough interest for a followup bout. Unless the company opts to give Kingston a short reign, then he will likely head into SummerSlam as the defending WWE Champion.
For so many years, fans were hoping to see the WWE sign AJ Styles just to witness some dream matches come true. One name that has always been throw around is Rey Mysterio, who was away from the company when AJ finally inked a deal.
Now that both Superstars are on Raw, it would make sense for the company to book this match while they still can. And what better opportunity to do so than SummerSlam? Mysterio is coming off a short, underwhelming match at WrestleMania 35, so he will aim to bounce back with a far better showing at the next major pay-per-view.
The 2019 WWE Superstar Shake-up saw Finn Balor switch brands for the first time in his journey. As the newest member of SmackDown and reigning Intercontinental Champion, Balor will have many challengers on the blue brand - none more deserving than Andrade who has yet to win a title on the main roster.
A feud would do wonders for both Superstars as they continue their quest to move up the ladder, and there is no doubt that fans would be greatly interested in the outcome. Unless one of them is given a major push into the main event scene, then it would be best to book this match.
Anticipation had been building for some time as fans looked forward to seeing Kairi Sane's next career move, and she seems to be on the right path early on. Introduced as Asuka's new tag team partner, the team could potentially dominate the division for the next year.
The logical choice for their top feud would be the reigning WWE Women's Tag Team Champions The IIconics, and it would make perfect sense to build it up for SummerSlam. With the division needing a hot feud to really put it on the map, these two teams are as good as it gets to set it off.
Sami Zayn and The Miz have competed against each other in the past, although the roles were reversed at the time with the former being a face and the latter portraying a heel. Now that both are attempting to establish themselves in their respective roles, it would certainly be intriguing to see how they mesh today.
Zayn has generated some buzz since returning from injury, while The Miz is coming off a big match at WrestleMania 35. A title wouldn't have to be involved since this is the type of feud that could get very personal with a tenacious build up to it.
Samoa Joe and John Cena came up together through OVW but their career trajectory couldn't have been more different. As Cena became the face of WWE for a decade, Joe had to work even harder to establish himself as a top name in the industry.
Joe has expressed interest in competing against Cena once again as it has been 18 years since they last had a one on one contest. Prior to WrestleMania 35, there were some rumors teasing a match between them at the event although that didn't come to fruition, which is why it makes sense to save it for SummerSlam.
All signs are beginning to point towards a feud between Roman Reigns and Shane McMahon. With the latter turning heel and enjoying a big role on SmackDown, rumors have suggested that the WWE could book a lengthy rivalry between them that would result in a meetup at SummerSlam.
Since Reigns may be away from the title picture as he gets back into his groove, WWE want to maximize his return to the ring with an established name. Elias has also been involved in assisting McMahon in taking down Reigns, increasing speculation about plans for the biggest show of the summer.
When it comes to major PPV's, there is usually at least one McMahon family member who is involved in some capacity. Ideally, fans would love to see a new challenger for Becky Lynch's title such as Ember Moon, but rumors have suggested that Stephanie McMahon could be the one to battle her come SummerSlam 2019.
There is already some history between the two Superstars that could lead to a major fallout in the near future. With Lynch holding both women titles at the moment, it is likely that she will drop one of them at some point, and defend the other at SummerSlam.
Drew McIntyre is due for a big push and it's only a matter of time before the company pulls the trigger. Given how high Vince McMahon has always been on him, it's not surprising to see McIntyre being discussed as Seth Rollins' challenger for SummerSlam.
All that will depend on how the next few months play out as McIntyre will have to connect more with the WWE Universe to earn such a valuable spot on the card. Regardless of the outcome, both Superstars should come out of this looking stronger than ever if booked properly, as the match appears to be great on paper.
