WWE fans aren’t just WWE fans. The WWE Universe is known for keeping up with a number of things sports and combat and that includes other wrestling promotions, boxing, MMA and independent talents that could one day become WWE Superstars. Because WWE fans have an insatiable thirst for all things wrestling and sports, it makes sense to piece together some of the biggest news items not to come from the WWE. Why? Because an argument can be made that other news affects WWE news.

This week, we take a look at items like Floyd Mayweather taking on the UFC, a couple of independent wrestlers perhaps making their way to the WWE and other wrestling promotions making some interesting choices with their talent pool.

Here are your 5 Most INSANE Things That Happened OUTSIDE Of WWE This Week.

Mayweather Jumping to MMA?

Joe Camporeale-USA TODAY Sports

It was reported on Wednesday that UFC commentator Joe Rogan spoke with UFC President Dana White, and it was confirmed Floyd Mayweather is looking for a deal with the UFC. Speculation is Mayweather is thinking $1 billion in a multi-fight deal seems about right.

Why would this affect WWE? First, a deal with MMA would mean Conor McGregor would have his next opponent and it would effectively rule out any chance of him coming to WWE. Second, the fight would generate huge interest in two other sports not wrestling related. That sort of thing always had a bit of trickle-down effect on WWE business.

Cody Rhodes Loses ROH Title

www.ewrestlingnews.com

Just prior to his match at Wrestle Kingdom 12, Cody Rhodes lost his title to Dalton Castle. It was a surprising decision considering Rhodes’ popularity outside WWE and how much attention he’s brought to ROH. Rhodes’ reign as champion has to be considered nothing but a huge success so to take the title off him seems like an interesting choice.

It might not be a long-term decision and simply last long enough to let Rhodes put over Kota Ibushi and not lose the title.

It might be related to the XFL announcement or it might not be, but rumors have begun to swirl that Vince is open to considering a sale of the WWE to outside investors.
