WWE Hall of Famer and former Raw GM Mick Foley had a wrestling career like no other. With an ability to reinvent himself over-and-over again, Foley wrestled under three completely different but iconic gimmicks: Dude Love, Cactus Jack and Mankind.
With the Dude Love gimmick, Foley was the peacemaking, loving and hippie-style wrestler. It was this character that put him on the face of professional wrestling, and helped Foley win the crowd over.
In his Cactus Jack gimmick (which he used early on in WCW), Foley was a hardcore style wrestler, beating and battering his opponents which often left a bloody mess.
And as for Mankind? Foley wore the iconic mask, and was a shy, insane and timid character who enjoyed inflicting pain on himself. But this was by far Foley’s most beloved wrestling personality. And it was this gimmick where he began to rise among the top superstars in The Attitude Era.
All three gimmicks became known as “The Three Faces of Foley.” All were extremely creative, hilarious and popular in their own ways. So who’d win a match if all three characters got into the ring?
In a recent interview with Matt Wilansky of ESPN.com, Foley picked Dude Love to win it all. “Dude hides under the ring and waits for the other two to wear themselves out, then takes advantage,” he said.
Obviously, this is all an imaginative scenario. It should be noted that Mankind did win three WWF Championships, and he did survive two brutal falls from the top of the Cell against The Undertaker at King of the Ring in 1998. You have to make a case for Mankind winning, too.
Though all three gimmicks haven’t been seen in years, they remain popular to this day. Foley was always willing to do what was best for business, and that meant reinventing himself in completely different ways. As such, he’s in the Hall of Fame and will always be remembered for the three iconic gimmicks.
