Professional wrestling is, has, and always will be a scripted drama. But what makes it different than the Arrowverse or any police or medical procedural show on the air is that it also is, always, and has been presented as real. It gives all of the performers and people behind the scenes unique challenges every week, especially as more and more of the fans are into how the sauce is made.

Every so often, a big event or an angle will happen that seems real, raw (no pun intended), and emotional. The fans can get worried, scared, or shocked, sometimes all three at once. When the moment is so real that the fans think it is actually real, that is the White-Hot Heat that wrestlers live for. Here are 10 Moments In WWE That Looked Real (But Weren't).

10 The Showstopper Stopped

The story has become so famous (infamous?) that just about every fan who was alive at the time or a historian knows what went down. Or at least what they were told. One night in Syracuse, New York, Shawn Michaels mouthed off to the wrong people and got utterly destroyed. Some of the after-effects were turned into an intense angle on Raw. While wrestling Owen Hart, the Rocket nailed Shawn with an enziguri. After another minute or so, Shawn went down. The announcing stopped to help sell the angle, and the owner of the company (who some people didn’t realize at the time was Vince) stood by HBK’s side the entire time as Raw went off the air.

9 Mysterio Maimed

One of the most famous scenes in WCW history came alongside the nWo invasion. Jimmy Hart came to ringside to get the attention of the Horsemen, Sting and Luger, to come help in the back, where Hall and Nash were beating on everyone with bats.

Rey Mysterio tried to stop them and leaped onto Nash, who in return tried out for the ‘96 Olympic team and hurled the Luchador like a javelin headfirst into a trailer.

8 Punk Peaces Out

After speaking his mind and laying down a pipe bomb the likes of which fans hadn’t heard in years, there was one thing left for CM Punk to do. He had to head into his hometown, and leave the arena and the company with the WWE title. If you have never seen the main event from "Money In The Bank 2011," you really need to right now, if just for the crowd reaction. The wrestling world loved CM Punk and still does. But in the Windy City... there’s a reason he’s the Second City Saint. Punk won the match, the title, and bolted out of the arena into a car, headed home and put the richest prize in the industry in his refrigerator.

7 Chyna Collapses

As the Ninth Wonder Of The World was breaking down all kinds of barriers, Chyna was also seemingly unbeatable in the Women’s Division. Until she came across the ring veteran, Ivory. During their contest at the 2001 Royal Rumble, Chyna went for her version of the Muta Elbow, but injured her neck and collapsed in a heap. Ivory pinned her for the easy victory. Post-match, the King headed to Chyna’s aid as she got carted off on a stretcher.

6 The Snake Staggered

When you’re young and impressionable, a guy like Jake The Snake Roberts can really make you believe in pro wrestling's reality. In an episode of the "Brother Love Show," Rick "The Model" Martel started spraying cologne in Damien's direction. Jake tried to put a stop to it and got zapped in the eye with a dose of Arrogance. Jake immediately went down and couldn’t see. Even the heels acted slightly concerned, as the Big Bossman and agents came out to help Jake. Over the next few months, the Snake would try to regain his vision and wear crazy looking contacts to sell the angle.

5 Bret Blows Up

Up until The Screwjob happened, 1997 was owned by Bret Hart. As the top heel in the industry, he feuded with just about everyone else in the WWE. Early in the year, the Hitman was still loved by all.

He was just getting the short end of the stick every night. He finally had it after getting screwed out of the WWE title. As Vince tried to interview him on Raw, Bret heaved him to the mat and cussed up a storm, swearing that the entire company knew that he was the best there is!

4 Jeff Hardy Heated

Fireworks mishaps have happened before in the WWE. Earlier in 2008, the Undertaker’s pyrotechnics accidentally caught his jacket, forcing the stoic Phenom to run to the ring. It seemed entirely possible that while Jeff Hardy was juking and jiving on his way to the ring to celebrate finally being the WWE Champion that he juked when he should have jived and landed right in the stream of his fireworks.

3 Styles Shoots

When the voice of ECW, Joey Styles, joined the WWE fans got happy that Styles would finally get his shot at the big time. But Joey’s style wasn’t necessarily what the company was looking for at the time. Plus, Jim Ross was still around and Michael Cole was being groomed to be the voice to the WWE. Styles would cut a scathing promo on Raw, insulting the company and the direction of “sports entertainment.” It was all a way to promote the upcoming 2006 "One Night Stand" and the rebirth of ECW.

2 Matt’s Malevolence

After getting cheated on by Lita with one of his closest friends in the business, Matt Hardy went a little off the deep end. Broken, but not “Broken,” Hardy went on a tirade on social media about the whole ordeal.

The WWE fired him for his behavior. The fans sided with Matt in the matter and eventually, a deal was struck to bring Hardy back, in secret. Plenty of fans had no idea that this was the case when Matt Hardy jumped the guard rail at Raw and started attacking Edge.

1 Paige’s Put-Down

It’s hard to believe but it was only a few years ago that Charlotte hit the main roster and was trying to find her footing like everyone else. The future queen engaged in a feud with Paige and the anti-diva let loose on the microphone. As Paige was gearing up to try and take the Divas Championship from Charlotte, she brought up the Queen’s brother, Reid. Reid passed at just 25, and according to Paige in the storyline, “didn’t have much fight in him.” Ouch! Stay classy, WWE.
