Monday Night Raw Review (06/01/2015)

Fresh off the heels of the Elimination Chamber event – which almost provided the WWE Universe with a new WWE World Heavyweight Champion – Monday Night Raw was back in the Lone Star State coming to us live from San Antonio, Texas.

Here is how it all went down:

The Authority comes out to kick off Raw once again … looking disgruntled and addressing the Dean Ambrose situation. “Justin Bieber” chants directed towards Seth Rollins … and here comes Roman Reigns. (Reigns speaking on behalf of Ambrose; claims Ambrose wants a rematch at MITB in a Ladder match) Seth Rollins accepts the challenge in a fit of anger; much to the chagrin of The Authority. Triple H places Reigns in a match with the added stipulation that should he lose; he will also lose his spot in the Money in the Bank Ladder match.

Roman Reigns vs. King Barrett

This was a hard-hitting encounter between two brawler-type superstars. (Crowd is behind Reigns) Slow at times with an old-school feel. Reigns avoids a Bull Hammer from Barrett and hits a Spear for the victory.

Match Winner: Roman Reigns

Match Rating: 5.5/10

Backstage: Triple H and Stephanie inform Roman Reigns that he must once again compete for his spot at MITB in a match against Mark Henry.

Paige challenges Nikki Bella to a Divas Championship match … challenge accepted.

Ryback (c) vs. The Miz for the Intercontinental Championship

Prior to the first lock-up; out comes Big Show … KO Punch to The Miz and Big Show declares his intentions of taking the IC title from Ryback.

No Contest

Kevin Owen comes out to address the WWE Universe. Owens cuts a promo on his son being a fan of John Cena – calling it “blind worship” and explaining his disapproval. John Cena is out next to rebuttal Owens’ claims. Cena says that Owens is “not a real man” before bursting out into an emotion-fueled promo of his own. Cena and Owens appear as though they will throw fists but Owens leaves the ring.

Dolph Ziggler vs. Kofi Kingston

Lana observes this match from the top of the stage … Ziggler and Kingston put on some short but quick offence before Ziggler rolls up Kingston for the victory.

Match Winner: Dolph Ziggler

Match Rating: 3/10

Following the match, Xavier Woods and Big E attack Ziggler before the Prime Time Players come to the aid of The Show Off – setting up an impromptu Six-Man Tag Team match.

Dolph Ziggler and Prime Time Players vs. The New Day

Titus O’Neil was the star of this match as the big man was on fire before picking up the pinfall victory for his team

Match Winners: Dolph Ziggler and Prime Time Players

Match Rating: 5/10

Roman Reigns vs. Mark Henry

This was the usual slugfest that one would expect with these participants. When the action spills outside; Henry is knocked while Reigns makes his way back into the ring before the ten-count.

Match Winner: Roman Reigns by Count Out

Match Rating: 2/10

Backstage: Triple H and Stephanie greet Roman Reigns again and inform him that his night is far from over as his next opponent will be Bray Wyatt.

Nikki Bella (c) vs. Paige for the Divas Championship

This DIVAS match was actually given some time to develop. Paige hits a great spot from the middle rope; dropping Nikki with a DDT. However, a little “twin magic” allows Nikki to secure the victory when Brie emerged from under the ring to roll-up Paige and score the three-count.

Match Winner: Nikki Bella

Match Rating: 5/10

Randy Orton vs. Sheamus

The Apex Predator and The Celtic Warrior would go back-and-forth in a physical altercation; a rough bout between two men who know each other well. Sheamus uses a steel chair and the match is over.

Match Winner: Randy Orton by Disqualification

Match Rating: 6/10

Sheamus beats on Orton for a while following the match; leaving The Viper laid out on the floor.

Backstage: Rusev is interviewed and discusses how he “has nothing” and is a “broken man” but will “get everything back.”

Bo Dallas vs. Neville

Bo Dallas is feeling less “inspirational” tonight and looking more aggressive. Neville will pick up another victory with his impressive Red Arrow finisher.

Match Winner: Neville

Match Rating: 3/10

Roman Reigns vs. Bray Wyatt

Seth Rollins, J&J Security, and Kane watch from the top of the stage … Bray Wyatt places the hurt on the worn-down Roman Reigns. Reigns fights back and takes it to the Eater of Worlds. Wyatt comes back at Reigns with his unique style of offence but Reigns is quick to respond. The eventual interference from The Authority cannot stop Reigns as he hits the Spear on Wyatt for his third victory of the night.

Match Winner: Roman Reigns

Match Winner: 7.5/10

That's right! #DeanAmbrose is back! #RAW

Roman Reigns looked decent in his match with King Barrett – less green than recent months. Typical stuff during the Mark Henry … which was expected. Reigns then looked solid during his match with Bray Wyatt. The way he was made to look on Raw; Roman Reigns could be the next Mr. Money in the Bank.

Ryback vs. Big Show is not much to get excited about but inserting Big Show into random storylines seems like a common theme in WWE.

Kevin Owens and John Cena were both exceptional during their segment. This feud is quickly becoming a full-fledge rivalry. Hopefully Owens will win again in the rematch at MITB but we all know how these things go down – traded victories. If Cena go over in two weeks; Owens should take the rubber match … but that is mere hope and this is a John Cena situation.

Side Note: Kevin Owens looks right on the main roster … good move.

Paige has to be the top Diva on the main roster right now even though she is not the current Champion. Management seriously needs to look into brining up some of the girls from NXT – more competition – and fresh storylines.

Randy Orton still has a lot to offer the WWE going forward.

Bray Wyatt is the best character in WWE with the coolest entrance and great mic work. It is astounding how he has been positioned within the system. Wyatt is the alternative voice and could the biggest thing in WWE.
