There have been a ton of instances where WWE superstars have headed out to appear in movies — both in Hollywood as well as under the WWE production division. The biggest movies are well-known, with Hulk Hogan fighting Rocky Balboa in Rocky III, John Cena and The Miz battling terrorists in the Marine franchise, and the multiple appearances of Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson in some of the biggest Hollywood blockbusters in theaters today.

However, just as there are many of these major star-turning appearances by WWE superstars, there are also a number of wrestlers who have appeared in some pretty interesting roles; roles only their truest hardcore fans remember (or even knew about, to begin with). Here is a look at 10 movies starring WWE superstars that only true fans remember.

10 10. Conan The Destroyer - Andre The Giant

10 Movies Starring WWE Superstars Only True Fans Remember

Everyone knows the most famous movie role of Andre the Giant's career was as Fezzik in The Princess Bride. That movie remains one of the most beloved fantasy films of all-time and Andre was fantastic in his role as the giant.

However, only hardcore WWE fans even knew that Andre the Giant also appeared in the early Arnold Schwarzenegger movie Conan the Destroyer. That is because Andre was uncredited and under lots of prosthetics as Dagoth, the dreaming god that Conan has to defeat in the final battle of the movie.

9 9. Southland Tales - Dwayne Johnson

10 Movies Starring WWE Superstars Only True Fans Remember

Look at the career of Dwayne Johnson since he left the WWE. It's obvious that his career in Hollywood was even better than his Hall of Fame-caliber career in professional wrestling. He has starred in everything from the Fast and Furious and G.I. Joe franchises, to video game adaptations like Rampage and Doom, to reboots like Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, and Baywatch.

However, along the way, Johnson took some chances. Not wanting to get stuck as a straight action star, The Rock took on the role as a gay bodyguard in Be Cool and then appeared in a trippy sci-fi movie by the director of Donnie Darko called Southland Tales. No one really remembers this movie anymore, but The Rock proved in even this ensemble that he was a huge Hollywood star in the making.

8 8. Gremlins 2 - Hulk Hogan

10 Movies Starring WWE Superstars Only True Fans Remember

Hulk Hogan was supposed to be a giant crossover star, moving from the WWE to Hollywood with ease. As a matter of fact, Hogan had a role in Rocky III where he was a professional wrestler in an exhibition match against boxer Rocky Balboa — before he started Hulkamania in the WWE.

However, his Hollywood career died when he appeared in numerous flops like Suburban Commando and Mr. Nanny. However, before he got a chance to star in those two movies, Hogan had a cameo that only true WWE fans remember in Gremlins 2: The New Batch, In that movie, Hogan broke the fourth wall when the Gremlins hijacked the projector's booth of the movie and Hogan threatened to come up there if they didn't start the film up again.

7 7. Running Man - Jesse Ventura

WWE stars in movies

Jesse "The Body" Ventura was a professional wrestler for a short time, debuting in 1975 and retiring in 1984 due to blood clots in his lungs. Ventura went on to become one of the best color commentators in the history of the WWE and took that as a chance to try to make it in Hollywood, too.

Everyone likely remembers that Jesse "The Body" Ventura's biggest role came in Predator as one of the military men along with Arnold Schwarzenegger tasked with hunting down the alien. However, only true WWE fans likely remember that Ventura, the future governor of Minnesota, also appeared in the adaptation of Stephen King's The Running Man, which also starred Schwarzenegger in a futuristic reality TV contest.

6 6. Ed Wood - George Steele

10 Movies Starring WWE Superstars Only True Fans Remember

When it comes to George "The Animal" Steele and the movie Ed Wood, there is a great story behind this casting choice. For those unaware, Ed Wood is considered one of the worst filmmakers of all time. The movie was a Tim Burton directed biopic that lovingly retold the story of the man's career with Johnny Depp portraying Wood.

His most infamous movie was Plan 9 From Outer Space, featuring a professional wrestler of that era named Tor Johnson in the role of Inspector Daniel Clay. In Ed Wood, Burton went to the WWE and chose legend George "The Animal" Steele to portray Johnson, and it was perfect casting as the two are almost identical.

5 5. Roadhouse - Terry Funk

10 Movies Starring WWE Superstars Only True Fans Remember

Terry Funk is one of the most respected and revered veterans in professional wrestling history. He is a former NWA world champion, worked in the WWE with his brother Dory Funk Jr., and helped ECW when they got their start when he headlined the first ever pay-per-view for the company.

There was also a time in the late '80s that Funk decided to try his hand at acting. He had two major roles thanks to his tough guy persona, the first being Over the Top in 1987, a critically panned arm wrestling movie starring Sylvester Stallone. However, he was also in the fantastic Patrick Swayze action movie Roadhouse in 1989! He starred as a bartender who was fired when Swayze's "cooler" came in to turn the bar around.

4 4. Riddick - Dave Bautista

10 Movies Starring WWE Superstars Only True Fans Remember

Dave Bautista (also, Batista) originally left the WWE because he wanted to try his hand in Hollywood. He succeeded over time and has become second to only The Rock when it comes to movie success. Bautista has starred in both of Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy movies as well as Avengers: Infinity War. He was also a henchman in a James Bond movie Spectre and even got critical acclaim for the sequel movie Blade Runner 2049.

However, around the same time, a lot of people have forgotten that he also starred in the Vin Diesel prequel to Pitch Black titled Riddick. The movie was the third in the franchise and Bautista was one of the mercenaries that faced off with Riddick in the movie.

3 3. Blade: Trinity - Triple H

Triple H in Blade Trinity

In 2011, the WWE tried to make Triple H a movie star in their movie studio's productions of The Chaperone and Inside Out. They stopped after those two critically panned movies and have let The Game do what he does best: lead WWE NXT to glory month after month as the man in charge of that brand.

However, if the WWE had remembered the first time that Triple H got a movie role, they might have realized that he wasn't the best option to build a film around. In 2004, Triple H was one of the evil vampires in the movie Blade: Trinity. Hardcore WWE fans might remember that he didn't go anywhere without his pet Pomeranian, which also happened to be a vampire...

2 2. Punisher - Kevin Nash

10 Movies Starring WWE Superstars Only True Fans Remember

Triple H wasn't the only former Cliq member from the WWE to appear as a bad guy in a comic book movie. In the exact same year that Triple H starred as a vampire flunkie in Blade: Trinity, Kevin Nash appeared in another Marvel movie as a heavy in The Punisher named "The Russian."

Nash faced a better reception than Triple H since he didn't get stuck with cringe-worthy dialogue that was just constant expletives and insults. Instead, Nash used his massive height to become a realistic looking threat to Thomas Jane's Punisher. A few years later, Nash got a chance to take on a very different role in the movie Magic Mike, though...

1 1. The Devil's Rejects - Dallas Page

10 Movies Starring WWE Superstars Only True Fans Remember

Diamond Dallas Page got a couple of chances to appear in a movie as himself back when he was in WCW, including the 2000 wrestling movie Ready to Rumble and the 2001 comedy Rat Race. However, in 2005, the man who created DDP Yoga got a chance to sink his teeth into a great role.

Page starred alongside Danny Trejo as one of the Snapper Brothers in the Rob Zombie movie The Devil's Rejects. The brothers were bounty hunters seeking to take down the infamous Firefly family of serial killers that first appeared in the 2003 horror movie House of 1000 Corpses.
