If Daniel Bryan leaves WWE to pursue an in-ring return, then SmackDown Live will need a new GM, and it seems they have someone in mind.
In 2016, the WWE Universe had their hearts collectively broken when Daniel Bryan came to the ring and informed us all that he was being forced to retire from in-ring competition. Then, just a few months later, he returned. Not to wrestle of course, but to take up the mantle of being SmackDown Live's General Manager.
In the year and a half that Bryan has filled the role of GM, the former WWE World Heavyweight Champion made no bones about letting his employers know that he doesn't think much of their decision to not let him wrestle again. The Yes Man made comments live on TV and even hinted on social media that when his contract with WWE is up he will go elsewhere to reignite in-ring career.
Bryan's contract isn't due to come to an end until some time in 2018. That begs the question though, who will WWE replace him with? According to The Wrestling Observer, the plan is for Bryan's very own sister-in-law Nikki Bella to fill The Leader Of The Yes Movement's shoes. Season seven of Total Divas premieres this week and apparently, a running thread throughout the show is Bella's pursuit of the SmackDown Live GM role.
Both Nikki and her sister Brie recently spoke out about returning to WWE at some point in 2018, however, it was assumed that it would be a wrestling return for the twins. While that is definitely a possibility for Brie, ironically Nikki may not be cleared to wrestle much like the current General Manager of the blue brand. Nikki underwent extensive neck surgery a while back, and although she has wrestled since, the issues may leave her more prone to further neck problems in the future.
Having Nikki Bella assume the role of a General Manager instead of a wrestler is an interesting one. Also, who's to say that the Bella Twin can't do both? Kurt Angle is a wrestling General Manager right now on Raw. Nikki potentially taking Daniel Bryan's job and Brie talking about a come back as her husband discusses leaving the company must make for some very interesting and potentially awkward conversations in the Bella-Bryan household.
