Earlier this week we brought you the news that WWE was considering introducing cruiserweight tag team titles. The addition of those new belts is just a rumor at this point, but what has been confirmed is the addition of yet another new championship belt.

This new title will debut in NXT and will be called the NXT North American Championship. The news was broken on WWE.com after NXT General Manager William Regal announced it during Wednesday's tapings at Full Sail University.

The inaugural NXT North American champion will be crowned the night before WrestleMania 34 in New Orleans. At NXT TakeOver: New Orleans there will be a six-man ladder match to crown the first-ever NXT North American champ. The six competitors are listed below so just skip the next paragraph if you don't want to read the spoiler.

The six-man ladder match will feature NXT veterans Adam Cole, Velveteen Dream, Killian Dain, Lars Sullivan and two newcomers. Former Impact Wrestling star EC3 and former indie star Ricochet will also be in the match to add some new blood in the chase for the first NXT North American title.

With the introduction of the NXT North American Championship and the possible cruiserweight tag team titles, that would bring the total number of WWE/NXT championship belts to 14. Brad Shepard of BodySlam.net broken down all of the titles in case you couldn't rattle off all 14 off the top of your head.

The NXT North American title is expected to be a mid-card championship akin to the US title and IC title. You would think that the North American title would be more prestigious than the US title (you know because North America is bigger than the US), but it appears they will be on the same level within their respective brands.
