The inclusion of NXT at Survivor Series made the brand the most important one at the show. Raw and Smackdown has been established for years, but NXT joining USA Network made it a new television product. WWE wasted no time giving the NXT stars a spotlight to showcase their skills against the biggest names on the main roster. Some talents clearly stood out more than others.

We will look at both the wrestlers that shined brightest and had disappointing nights. The results are mostly due to the WWE booking allowing certain talents to stand out. Others would get used in an ineffective manner that hurt them. Find out just which stars had the strongest and weakest appearances on the biggest show of their careers. These are five NXT wrestlers that became stars at Survivor Series and five that had disappointing nights.

10 Became A Star: Roderick Strong

The triple threat match between Roderick Strong, AJ Styles and Shinsuke Nakamura had strong appeal for fans. Three of the top in-ring performers of the past decade mixed it up to provided fun and compelling matches between the mid-card champions.

Few fans expected Strong to win the match given the star power of the other two champions. Strong pulling off the win and pinning Nakamura made him a bigger star. Undisputed Era had a dominant night with Strong scoring the biggest win of his career.

9 Became A Disappointment: Walter

The addition of Walter to the male 5 vs 5 vs 5 elimination tag match added excitement for Team NXT. Fans loved the opening showdown between Walter, Drew McIntyre and Braun Strowman. Unfortunately, the night ended quite early for Walter.

NXT UK’s biggest star was the first man pinned after McIntyre hit the Claymore Kick. The boos showed the disappointment of the live fans. Walter didn’t get a chance to showcase his greatness and had the worst showing in the match.

8 Became A Star: Matt Riddle

Matt Riddle had a great match at TakeOver on the night before Survivor Series against Finn Balor. The star power of Riddle has a higher potential than most of his peers. Riddle had a memorable showdown with Shorty G that established him in the elimination men’s match.

An even cooler moment saw the NXT star eliminate Randy Orton from Team Raw. Orton hitting an RKO after his elimination ended Riddle’s night early. WWE could have given him a longer run, but Riddle made the most of his time at Survivor Series.

7 Became A Disappointment: Candice LeRae

The incredible performance of Candice LeRae at TakeOver: War Games saw her and Rhea Ripley overcome the odds against the heel team. WWE removed LeRae from the women’s elimination match citing an injury.

Fans would see Candice return to the match by helping Ripley avoid elimination against Sasha Banks. However, this booking backfired and made the face look like she was essentially playing up an injury to head to the back and gain an unfair advantage later in the match.

6 Became A Star: Rhea Ripley

WWE created a new star during the entire weekend of Survivor Series with Rhea Ripley. The episode of Smackdown to start the weekend featured Ripley defeating Charlotte Flair and Sasha Banks. Ripley had the biggest performance of the night at TakeOver: War Games winning for her team.

Survivor Series put Rhea over the top by once again lasting until the end of the team. Candice LeRae and Io Shirai were technically sole survivors, but Ripley was the only woman of Team NXT to last from the start of the match until her victory.

5 Became A Disappointment: Damian Priest

The talent of Damian Priest is impressive with the combination of size and ability. After all, Priest does things in the ring that men his size are never expected to do. Many fans were surprised at Priest getting a spot in the male elimination match, but he was a strong addition to the team.

Priest didn’t have much of a spotlight during the match and was quickly eliminated by an RKO from Randy Orton. Being in the match itself did help him, but Priest didn’t get a fair chance to show his skills to the new audience watching.

4 Became A Star: Adam Cole

Adam Cole might as well be the most popular wrestler in NXT right now. His incredible work during Survivor Series weekend took him to new heights. Cole received one of the roughest bumps in recent WWE memory at War Games, but it didn’t prevent him from defending the NXT Championship at Survivor Series against Pete Dunne.

Cole delivered another tremendous match against Dunne despite his body being banged up. The live audience treated Cole like one of the biggest stars on the show for good reason. Cole has become a mega-star over the past month in NXT or any WWE brand he appears on.

3 Became A Disappointment: Io Shirai

Io Shirai was one of the two women from the NXT elimination team that left the match due to an injury. The awkward spot saw Shirai and Candice LeRae head backstage. Everyone assumed they were done for the night until they returned.

Shirai coming back to give her team the advantage made sense as a heel, but it robbed the audience of her great work. The early exit of arguably the most talented woman in the match was quite disappointing for all NXT fans.

2 Became A Star: Keith Lee

Reports of Vince McMahon becoming a strong supporter of Keith Lee were confirmed at Survivor Series. In fact, Lee was the last man left for Team NXT in the elimination men’s match against Raw’s Seth Rollins and Smackdown’s Roman Reigns.

WWE booked the match for Lee to come off as an equal to the two biggest active stars in the company. Lee eliminated Rollins and went to the end against Reigns. Despite ultimately losing to Reigns, Lee earned the respect of fans all over the world and was made into a superstar.

1 Became A Disappointment: Shayna Baszler

The main event of Shayna Baszler vs Becky Lynch vs Bayley turned out to be the most disappointing match of the night. Baszler scored the biggest win of her career making Bayley tap out to put over NXT strong at the end of the show.

Unfortunately, the match was viewed as a failure due to the lack of excitement or crowd interest. Baszler’s style has had a few misses in NXT, and it was even worse here. The lackluster main event was one of the rare bad spots for NXT and specifically for Baszler failing to seize the moment.
