NXT is often heavily praised for creating brilliant characters and pushing wrestlers who fans never thought would get a chance to work in WWE. Stars like Kevin Owens, Finn Balor, and Asuka have thrived in NXT, being given a huge platform and a brilliant gimmick to become a success.

However, while certain wrestlers have thrived in amazing gimmicks, other wrestlers have simply been doomed from day one. Whether it's the storylines they were given or their gimmicks, certain wrestlers simply ended up being set up to fail, not having the chance to thrive or become the success that they could have been.

10 No Way Jose

No Way Jose

While No Way Jose found a niche spot in NXT, which eventually led to a main roster run, he was always doomed. NXT is often showcased as a lot more serious, with the focus being on in-ring talent, which is why his dancing, partying character was never going to work.

The character just didn't work in NXT, despite the push that the company tried to give him. The fact that he went on to do very little of note was a clear sign that this gimmick was just not going to happen for him.

9 Bull Dempsey

Bull Dempsey

To his credit, when Bull Dempsey first started in NXT, he showed potential as a big man who just loved to fight. However, WWE decided to seal his fate by changing his gimmick to 'Bull Fit,' which was basically him mocking his own body weight.

It was a very strange gimmick choice and one that was never going to create a top megastar for fans to care about. The gimmick was mocking how he looked, and if WWE couldn't take him seriously, why would the fans?

8 Dan Matha

Dan Matha and Samoa Joe Cropped

WWE hyped up Dan Matha heavily before his debut in NXT, and it seemed like the company had some pretty big plans for him. However, after some impressive video packages, the moment he got into the ring, Matha was just attacked and beaten down by Samoa Joe.

The one-sided assault didn't make Matha seem like a top-level WWE Superstar, and him never getting his revenge didn't help. Despite having the look, he wasn't treated like a serious threat and therefore fans didn't treat him like one.

7 Blue Pants

Blue Pants

Blue Pants was very popular with NXT fans, there's no denying that. But how far can you actually take a gimmick that is based around someone wearing blue-colored pants? The answer was clearly not very long, as Blue Pants never quite made it in WWE.

While Leva Bates has found her feat as The Librarian in AEW, the Blue Pants gimmick was one that was just doomed to fail, even if it was a popular one from the start.

6 Sylvester Lefort

Sylvester Lefort

Sylvester Lefort fell into the trap of relying upon his nationality as a gimmick, which is something that very rarely works. Much like many other wrestlers, Lefort was doomed early on as his entire character was based around him being French.

It was a gimmick that fans just never bought into, and straight away it was clear that Sylvester wasn't going to kick on and become a top WWE Superstar, despite his efforts.

5 CJ Parker

CJ Parker

The fact that WWE managed to mess up someone as charismatic as CJ Parker (Juice Robinson) is incredible. He's proven himself to be an amazing character, but WWE never gave him a chance.

Saddling him with a hippie gimmick who would come out with signs and complain about various topics just wasn't going to work in WWE, especially not in the NXT environment.

4 Alex Riley

Alex Riley

From the moment he arrived in NXT and WWE decided to place him on commentary, it was clear the company wasn't sold on Alex Riley. He did a good job there, but he wanted to be back in the ring, and eventually, it happened.

However, Alex just went from one feud to the next, never really winning any of them, instead just focusing on putting others over, which wasn't the way to build him as a star.

3 Adam Rose

Adam Rose

This is a classic character that was doomed from the beginning. Much like No Way Jose, this gimmick just wasn't serious enough. The focus on comedy and making people laugh meant that this character could never be pushed in a major angle.

In the end, this gimmick had a shelf life and while it was pushed onto the main roster where the 'entertainment' aspect of wrestling is used more, it was obviously never going to last.

2 Eva Marie

Eva Marie

Putting Eva Marie on NXT was a good idea on paper, but in reality, it was a disastrous decision. NXT is supposedly developmental, so the idea that Eva would go there to work and improve made sense, and that was WWE's goal.

However, she was absolutely doomed from the start as she was thrown into the firing line. NXT is the home of WWE's most dedicated, hardcore fans and they just weren't prepared to give the Total Divas star a chance, which is why her time on the roster didn't work out.

1 Solomon Crowe

Solomon Crowe

WWE had some real potential with Solomon Crowe, who is better known as Sami Callihan. He should have been a massive part of the NXT shows, but he barely made any impact at all, which was purely down to his dreadful gimmick.

He was supposedly a hacker, but it was never really explained and there was no real purpose as to why he was doing the things he did. Therefore, the fans quickly gave up caring and Crowe ended up leaving WWE.
