One Half Of A SmackDown Tag Team Has Been Released

The gimmick just couldn't get over with the fans

Just because you rock it in NXT doesn't mean you will connect with fans the same way on the big stage of the WWE and The Vaudevillains are a good example of that.

They had a very nice run in NXT - even reigning as Tag Team Champions for a while - but from the moment they made their debut in the WWE they just never seemed to catch on. And now they are no longer, as one half of the team, Simon Gotch, has been released.

The statement from the WWE states:

"WWE has come to terms on a mutually agreed upon release with Simon Gotch as of today, April 5, 2017. WWE wishes Gotch the best in all his future endeavors."

What this means for his Vaudevillains partner Aiden English, we don't know. English did have a singles run in NXT before the creation of the Vaudevillains, so maybe that is what they have planned for him next given that they did not release him as well. Or maybe a new tag team partner is coming his way. At this point it is wait-and-see.
