The One Man Gang, also known as Akeem, The African Dream, has seen a lot of things over this lengthy pro wrestling career. Being a heel in the heyday of Hulk Hogan and Andre the Giant, he shared some stories of his time in WWE on the School of Morton podcast co-hosted by WWE Hall of Fame Inductee Ricky Morton of the Rock n’ Roll Express.

Apart from speaking about how over Hulk Hogan was and how it was hard to hear spots in their matches due to amazing crowd reaction and noise, he admitted it was an amazing experience. Even more amazing was how giving one of the WWE talents was when he really didn’t need to be.

Gang told an interesting story about his time in the ring with the late, great, Andre The Giant. Known as one of the more all-time popular performers in the ring, Andre was also known to make things interesting, if not difficult for talents he didn’t think was deserving. If Andre wasn’t into what you were doing, he made things tricky for his opponents, playing practical jokes or actually hurting them to teach what he felt was a valuable lesson.

Gang didn’t have the type of experience with Andre at all. He described his experience with Andre as one of the best of his career. He said:

“I went out in the ring… and this is Andre the Giant so every time he hits me and I’m flying all over the place. After the match he calls me back and sits me down and he said, ‘boss I’m already over. I came in here to get you over. So I don’t want you flying around like that. I want to have a regular match with you.’ I was kinda like, ‘this is Andre the Giant, he doesn’t have to do that’.”

While there was a time One Man Gang was a great heel in wrestling, he is no longer wrestling in any major promotion. Not two years ago, he was on the unfortunate end of a severe flood that destroyed his home in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He was forced to start a GoFundMe page asking for assistance when his home was ruined in August of 2016. He hadn’t purchased insurance because he wasn’t located in a flood zone.
