WWE has reportedly ruled out a pretty big-name WrestleMania opponent for Brock Lesnar.

Earlier, we reported that Edge could be poised for a return to the ring based on recent developments. But, according to Dave Meltzer, he won't be going up against the Beast Incarnate.

Brock was revealed as the No.1 entrant for this month's Royal Rumble, which means that he will be available to attack as far as all other entrants are concerned, providing he lasts long enough. And while discussing the WWE Champion's potential WrestleMania opponents on Wrestling Observer Radio, Meltzer claimed to have been told that Edge isn't in the running.

“I do want to say this now that I remember certain things I’ve been told. It couldn’t be Edge," he said. "I was actually told flat-out that Edge is not wrestling Brock Lesnar. Not at the Royal Rumble and not at WrestleMania.”

It's been rumored that Edge could be made to work a few shows here and there if he's cleared to return to in-ring competition this year but, if you only listen to him, you're not going to be very hopeful.

We're all well very aware that retirements are never nailed-on certainties when WWE is involved but the promotion has strict protocols over neck injuries and, albeit making it easier for persons who have suffered such to return, might not allow the 46-year-old to just yet.

Brock Must Be Feeling Pretty Relieved...

It would be pretty great to see him go up against Lesnar, though. The champion is pretty susceptible to the Spear, as we all found out when Goldberg beat him in 2017. And the move happens to be Edge's weapon of choice.

Something could definitely be had from that. But, for now, it doesn't seem like the 11-time World Champion will be facing Brock even if he does make that long-awaited comeback this year.
