Wrestling Legend Says Paige Has Herself To Blame For Career Ending Early

Though she hasn't formally announced it yet, Paige's career as a wrestler appear to be over. PWInsider initially reported that doctors wouldn't clear her after she suffered a "stinger" in a December house show - when she took a kick from Sasha Banks during a match.

Paige missed over a year of action after undergoing neck surgery, and didn't return until the Nov. 20 episode of Monday Night Raw two weeks ago. She has accompanied her Absolution partners to the ring in recent weeks, but appears to be done as an in-ring performer.

Though a number of wrestling figures like Ryback and Mick Foley have offered support for Paige, former WWF/ECW/WCW valet Missy Hyatt thinks the two-time Divas Champion only has herself to blame.

Speaking with Hannibal TV, here's what Hyatt said:

“Overall, I think she had an opportunity to do something and to have a really, really great run, and I think she spoiled it. I think it’s sad, because she could have had a really great run, and make a lot of money and probably never have to work again… I heard WWE didn’t want her to have the neck surgery, but she pressed for the neck surgery, and [they’re] like, you’re too young to have the neck surgery.”

What's sad about Paige is that she was just entering the prime of her wrestling career. With two championship victories under her belt, the 25-year-old was destined to have a legendary career in the WWE.

Paige joined the main roster in 2014 at the young age of 21. She didn't need long to get over with the crowd, thanks to her extremely excellent wrestling skills and ability to appeal to the fans as a talker.

Of course, Paige wouldn't be the only wrestler to have her career cut short from a neck injury. PWInsider noted that her injury is similar to the one that forced Hall of Famer Edge to retire at the age of 37. 'Stone Cold' Steve Austin also walked away in his prime, following a nagging neck injury that had plagued him for a while.

But again, neither Paige or the WWE have officially announced the end of her wrestling career. We'll have to wait and see what the future holds for the leader of Absolution.
