WWE Champion Brock Lesnar is set to appear at the 2020 Royal Rumble in Houston, Texas, but his opponent hasn't been confirmed yet.

There was speculation that he would face either Cain Velasquez or Tyson Fury at WrestleMania 36, but both have since been ruled out as potential opponents. It's extremely unlikely that WWE would pit either against Lesnar at Royal Rumble at this stage, too.

Lesnar has already clashed with the vast majority of main event talents on the roster, so which superstar(s) could get the opportunity to face him at the Royal Rumble? There appear to be multiple candidates on the table.

According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter (h/t Matt Boone of eWrestling.com), Erick Rowan, Drew McIntyre and Seth Rollins are among the potential opponents for Lesnar.

Rollins would be an intriguing candidate, since he's already faced Lesnar three times for the Universal Championship here in 2019 - scoring monumental upsets at WrestleMania 35 and SummerSlam. The Architect recently pulled off an unexpected heel turn and has since aligned himself with the AOP, so a heel vs. heel showdown would make for an interesting showdown.

For what it's worth, WWE chairman Vince McMahon is reportedly "heavily behind" a push for Rowan, who has been squashing jobbers for several weeks now. But whether or not WWE is ready to place him in the main event spotlight this early remains to be seen.

With McIntyre, there have been plenty of reports about him being in line for a big push, but it hasn't happened. He'd be a quality opponent for Lesnar, but again, does WWE want a heel vs. heel showdown? Should he wind up facing Lesnar, it makes sense to turn McIntyre face. We'll just have to see how it all plays out.

Rowan, Rollins & McIntyre Are All Suitable Options

It's anybody's guess as to who Lesnar will face at WrestleMania, and he'll most certainly retain his title at Royal Rumble. But it's safe to say that McIntyre, Rowan and The Archiect are all capable of putting on a good match against Lesnar. McIntyre and Rowan especially would receive plenty of momentum if one of them got to face the WWE Champion. It would certainly be interesting to see if WWE chose to turn one of them face ahead of a potential showdown with Lesnar.
