Cain Velasquez will make his WWE debut at Thursday's Crown Jewel pay-per-view, where he'll go up against Brock Lesnar in a WWE Championship match.

Lesnar defeated Kofi Kingston on the Oct. 4 SmackDown Live Fox premiere to become the new WWE Champion, and now he'll try to defend it against the man who defeated him at UFC 121 back on Oct. 23, 2010.

Well, it doesn't sound like Velasquez is about to defeat Lesnar here in the squared circle. According to a rumor from Cageside Seats, The Beast Incarnate "isn’t expected to lose the WWE championship anytime soon," and his showdown against Velasquez could have a "schmoz finish."

This shouldn't come as a surprise, since most of Lesnar's title reigns last long periods. And of course, it's not common for WWE to put the title on a brand new superstar. But the creative team could look to protect Velasquez by not having Lesnar win cleanly. We'll just have to wait and see how it all plays out.

Velasquez confirmed that he has signed a three-year deal with the WWE, so he'll surely get multiple opportunities to win the WWE Championship - perhaps even from Lesnar himself down the road.

Lesnar's first run with the Universal Championship lasted a record 504 days, before Roman Reigns defeated him at SummerSlam 2018. The latter had to relinquish it two months later, when he stepped away to fight Leukemia.

In a Crown Jewel showdown against Braun Strowman, Lesnar emerged victorious to become the new Universal Champion. He held the title through WrestleMania 35 before Seth Rollins defeated him to win it. After Lesnar won it back at Extreme Rules, The Architect won it back at SummerSlam.

Get Ready For Another Lengthy Lesnar Title Reign

Velasquez is among the few WWE superstars that could realistically defeat Lesnar in a match, but it's too early for the company to put the title belt on him. If recent history is an indication, his title reign will last at least a few months. Like it or not, Lesnar is a massive money draw, and he'll help Fox's ratings for SmackDown Live, and it's likely a reason why the company is going to keep the WWE Championship on him for the long run.
