Monday Night Raw's celebrity guest host phase was a fairly dark time for wrestling fans. Each week WWE would bring a new celebrity to the show to act as the General Manager, and they would always get involved in a segment at some point in the show.

While it was a fun concept initially, it ran on for far too long with many of the celebrities clearly knowing nothing about wrestling. Everyone appeared because they had something to promote, and it ended up becoming tiresome.

Some of the guest hosts were horrendously bad, to the point where it actually damaged the quality of the show. Thankfully, there were some excellent hosts to counterbalance them, and in this list, we will look back at the five best and the five worst in WWE's history.

10 Best: Seth Green

Seth Green Cropped

Seth Green is someone who has appeared several times in WWE, and every time he does it's always great. He is a genuine fan and therefore, gets the business which always makes a huge difference from random celebrities doing self-promotion.

Seth Green might be small in size, but he's big in personality and he was always happy to throw himself into the mix. During his guest host spot, he actually competed in the ring in the main event.

Obviously, he didn't do too much, but he teamed up with John Cena and Triple H to battle Legacy, and it was fun. This was one of the first host spots and it showcased that if done well, it could have been a good idea.

9 Worst: The Three Stooges

The Three Stooges

Oh, this was one painful guest host moment that pretty much summed up how bad things can get. WWE's comedy, when done poorly can be very difficult to cope with, and that's what this episode was full of.

When you combine that with The Three Stooges' over the top and ridiculous comedy in its own right, then you get the mess that was this episode. Their in-ring segment was just a painful one to witness that left fans scratching their heads and looking at their watches.

It was a very bad segment that showcases exactly why so many fans hated this portion of WWE's history.

8 Best: Sharon & Ozzy Osbourne

Rock and roll legends hosting Monday Night Raw goes hand in hand, and when Sharon and Ozzy Osbourne showed up, they clearly threw themselves at it. They were brilliant hosts who were clearly out to have fun.

Many of the celebrity guest hosts were used in comedy spots, but the majority of them weren't funny. However, the talent show was a funny segment that worked.

Sure, it was a little bit ridiculous, but it got a laugh out of people and Sharon and Ozzy did try hard to make things as entertaining as possible throughout the night.

7 Worst: Cast Of Hot Tub Time Machine

One of the big problems with the celebrity guest host role was that the majority of the time it was simply just a cheap plug for something they were doing. The biggest example of that was when the cast of Hot Tub Time Machine arrived.

Of course, their segment featured a hot tub, and it was awful. The fact that it was a major post-WrestleMania Raw didn't help matters either, as expectations were so high for the show that they were ruined by this appearance.

They sat around backstage with Divas in a hot tub, only for them all to be involved in a segment with Mark Henry. It was a mess and isn't something WWE is likely to be promoting in a hurry.

6 Best: Shaquille O'Neal

People have been wanting a wrestling match between Big Show and NBA legend Shaquille O'Neal for years, and it all stems from this. The day he worked as the celebrity guest host teased something between the two big men that sadly never came to fruition.

However, he really was a brilliant guest host. Shaq has proven over the years that he gets the entertainment business, and he certainly knows how to put on a show. That's why he worked perfectly in this role.

He got involved in a segment with JeriShow, who were the top tag team at the time. Chris Jericho hilariously tried to stand up to him and ended up being kissed on the head, which remains one of the funniest moments of Jericho's career.

5 Worst: Criss Angel

If you add one of the best magicians in the world to a wrestling show, expectations are always going to be high. Surely he could have created some sort of epic illusion or mind-boggling trick to take place.

It would have created an amazing segment on Raw that people wouldn't have forgotten and could have been a fun way to perhaps make a heel disappear for the episode.

However, Criss Angel ended up doing absolutely nothing of note on the episode. It was an incredibly boring and forgettable guest host role that ended up being a letdown.

4 Best: Mike Tyson

Iron Mike Tyson is someone who has a longstanding history with WWE, with his role in helping the Attitude Era being crucial. Therefore when he was announced as a guest host, the expectations were high.

Tyson didn't disappoint either as he got back to working with D-Generation X, teaming with Chris Jericho to go against them. However, once again Tyson pulled out the big double-cross.

He ended up knocking out Jericho in what was a fantastic looking spot that really got the crowd going with a truly memorable moment.

3 Worst: Jeremy Piven

Some might argue that this was so bad it was good, but the fact is that Jeremy Piven's Raw appearance was a mess. He was out to promote a movie and it was clear that was the only reason he was around.

He cut a promo where he called SummerSlam, "SummerFest," which is a major botch that fans have continued to talk about to this day. However, the fact he didn't even know the name of the PPV just shows what a shambles this was.

2 Best: Bob Barker

When it comes to picking the best of the bunch, that one is easy as Bob Barker was head and shoulders above them all. The reason for that was because he got to bring his own game show into the world of WWE.

That meant that Bob was instantly comfortable and he just simply did his stuff. He hosted a Price is Right that featured wrestlers bidding on WWE related items, and it proved to be a hilarious segment.

The best part was the interaction with Chris Jericho, who was working at his peak during this point. Bob hilariously just stuck the name tag on his bare chest and the two men had an amazing interaction together that fans still remember today.

1 Worst: Ricky Hatton

WWE has always had a great relationship with the boxing world, which is why so many of the greats have appeared in a WWE ring at one point. That's why, on paper, bringing in Ricky Hatton as a guest host made sense.

His episode took place in England, where he was an even bigger star, but his hosting performance was disastrous. Fans didn't quite give him the response most were expecting, and on the microphone, Hatton didn't stand out.

He had an awkward boxing match with Chavo Guerrero during the show that was basically a squash. The problem was that absolutely nobody cared.
