WWE has officially announced a change to the Raw announce team as one member of the commentator crew is gone, headed back to pursue a wrestling career.

In news that isn't terribly surprising, WWE.com wrote, "Samoa Joe has been chosen to round out the Raw announce team as Dio Maddin pursues an in-ring return." Maddin was added to the Raw announce team when Fox grabbed SmackDown and Michael Cole, and Corey Graves were moved to Friday nights. The red brand went with new faces and Maddin, the least experienced of them, didn't last long.

On a recent episode of Raw, Maddin stood up to protect Jerry Lawler, took an F5 from Brock Lesnar and never returned. Samoa Joe was then brought in to temporarily replace Maddin, did an admirable job and WWE has decided to make it a more permanent thing. WWE added that Joe will fill the role as he recovers from a thumb injury.

While Joe isn't likely to be done wrestling, this is a good fit for Joe and most have considered him a natural. A bada-- in the ring, he's always been considered a performer able to give a strong promo. That skill has obviously carried over to the announce table and after only two weeks, WWE has seen enough, offering an official job to the Samoan Submission Machine.

This isn't the end of Maddin. WWE reports that he still aspires to become a bona fide in-ring Superstar and is headed back to the WWE Performance Center. This might be a better fit for him and it was somewhat surprising he was offered such a prominent spot on what was once WWE's flagship show. Speculation was, he was a request from Executive Director Paul Heyman.

Joe Is Just That Good

Joe has also been a recurring panelist for FS1’s WWE Backstage and has fit in quite nicely there as well. He's so good in fact, some have started asking if he's better served to retire from wrestling to pursue a full-time and permanent position on the commentary team.
