Stephanie McMahon is out first but is interrupted by Roman Reigns before she can enter the ring. Reigns immediately calls out Vince McMahon but Stephanie interjects. Reigns makes it clear that nobody is going to take away his WWE World Heavyweight Championship. Stephanie states to Reigns that she is "the boss" and Reigns is "the help." However, Reigns does not back down from the intimidation and the stage is set for the night.

Kevin Owens vs. Neville

The first match of 2016 would feature an excellent contest between two wrestlers who should be prominently feature this upcoming year. Kevin Owens scores the pinfall.

Backstage: Mr. McMahon arrives.

Titus O'Neil vs. Stardust

From fantastic competition to the usual flop match ... Titus O'Neil wins.

Backstage: Charlotte approaches Becky Lynch who she will face in a match in "the spirit of competition." Quick appearance and WOOO! (never gets old) from Ric Flair and we're ready to rock.

Becky Lynch vs. Charlotte

Strong showing on both parts here. Becky Lynch would avoid the famous "Flair Tactics" and pull off the victory.

Post-Match: Charlotte assaults Becky Lynch while Ric Flair encourages, struts, and talks trash.

Backstage: Mr. McMahon and Sheamus converse.

Ryback vs. Big Show

No contest here as The Wyatt Family quickly attacked Ryback and then Big Show in the ring.

Rusev and Alberto Del Rio vs. The Usos

Half-decent contest with The League of Nations picking up the victory.

Dolph Ziggler vs. Heath Slater

Odd pairing for a match but at least it was different. Heath Slater rolls up Dolph Ziggler for the victory.

Backstage: Mr. McMahon explains the rules of the match to Roman Reigns.

The New Day are out to make fun of the Mike Tyson hoverboard incident and are interrupted by CHRIS JERICHO! Y2J claims that he is back to once again "save" WWE and declares himself an entrant in the Royal Rumble match.

The New Day vs. The Dudley Boyz and Kalisto

Kalisto stole the show in this match however it was not enough as The New Day would emerge victorious.

Roman Reigns vs. Sheamus (WWE World Heavyweight Championship with Mr. McMahon as Special Guest Referee)

Chaos would ensue as Mr. McMahon was clearly out to screw over Roman Reigns. McMahon would feel the wrath of Reigns as Stephanie McMahon made her way to ringside. In the end, Reigns would retain amid the sea of bodies when another official would count the three.

Post-Match: Mr. McMahon announces that Roman Reigns will defend the title in the Royal Rumble match.

Going Forward

New year, new direction for WWE? Not likely; it's still early in the year and quite possible ... but not likely.

Becky Lynch looked good tonight and should prove a worthy challenger for the Divas Championship ... but the people still want Sasha Banks.

Chris Jericho is not going to win the Royal Rumble but it's always good to see Y2J.

The WWE World Heavyweight Championship being defended in the Royal Rumble match? Interesting situation.
