Raw Recap (01/18/2016)

Recap

Roman Reigns opens the show and discusses his upcoming title defence in the Royal Rumble match. Reigns then proceeds to call out Brock Lesnar but is instead joined by Chris Jericho. Y2J explains how Lesnar is set to be his guest on the "Highlight Reel" later in the night and invited Reigns to join. The League of Nations then interrupt. Sheamus explains how someone from the League will win the Rumble and reclaim the championship. Some words are exchanged and Reigns vs. Rusev is made official by Jericho who also declares himself special guest referee. (Y2J has match making power now?)

Roman Reigns vs. Rusev

Hard-fought battle with Chris Jericho ejecting each League of Nations member at ringside. Roman Reigns eventually hits the Spear for the victory.

Backstage: Stephanie McMahon approaches Chris Jericho about his actions. Stephanie puts Jericho on notice to never again mess with her show.

Brie Bella vs. Natalya

Total Divas is back so this match was completely necessary. Brie Bella taps out.

The Wyatt Family vs. The Dudley Boyz and Ryback

Solid little fight here; nothing scientific or that technical. Luke Harper picks up the pin on Bubba Ray Dudley.

Big Show vs. Heath Slater

Big Show is not winning the Rumble. No need for these squash matches. Show wins in short fashion.

Backstage: Stephanie McMahon provokes the League of Nations in regards to Chris Jericho.

Vince and Stephanie McMahon arrive to draw the name of the #1 entrant into the Royal Rumble match ... and the (un)lucky Superstar is Roman Reigns.

Becky Lynch vs. Tamina

Strong showing from Becky Lynch who forces Tamina to tap out while Charlotte and Ric Flair watch from ringside.

Post-Match: Becky Lynch demands an answer from Charlotte in regards to a Divas Championship match this Sunday. Becky goads Ric Flair into accepting on behalf of Charlotte.

Dean Ambrose and Kalisto vs. Sheamus and Alberto Del Rio

Plenty of back-and-forth action with Sheamus hitting the Brogue Kick on Kalisto for the victory.

Jey Uso vs. Big E

Not bad for two tag team performers. Big E comes out of this with the victory for The New Day.

R-Truth, Neville, Titus O'Neil, and Mark Henry vs. Stardust, Tyler Breeze, and The Ascension

This match served as nothing but filler. Neville picks up the pinfall on Tyler Breeze.

-The Highlight Reel-

Paul Heyman interrupts Chris Jericho; putting over Brock Lesnar in the process. Jericho and Heyman engage in some interesting banter before "The Beast" arrives. However, before Lesnar can enter the ring, Roman Reigns makes his way through the crowd. Lesnar is Speared as the League of Nations make their way down to the ring. Lesnar clears the League and is Speared again ... lights out ... The Wyatt Family appear. The Wyatt's beat on Reigns before turning their attention to Lesnar. Raw concludes with Bray Wyatt firmly in charge.

Going Forward

Vince needs to remove himself from WWE programming all together. The old man is far too gone to fit in anymore.

If WWE wants to make WrestleMania at AT&T Stadium as huge as it should be then they need a MAJOR main event.

This Sunday, have Brock Lesnar win the Royal Rumble and the WWE World Heavyweight Championship and then have The Rock challenge for the title at 'Mania.

Two part-timers in the main event? Unusual booking but WWE needs a money match to close the show this April.

Although, Bray Wyatt winning it all would be absolutely amazing.
