Battleground is in the books and The Beast finds himself faced with a familiar burden as the sins of a past WrestleMania have come back around to haunt Brock Lesnar.
Seth Rollins managed to escape the event with the WWE World Heavyweight Championship while Kevin Owens failed to deliver on a promise.
Next Stop? SummerSlam.
But first, another edition of Monday Night Raw and all the aftermath from Battleground.
Here’s what happened:
The show opens with the legendary Gong … and The Undertaker is live and in the flesh in Kansas City. The Undertaker discusses how “streaks are made to be broken” but the constant reminders from Brock Lesnar have pushed The Deadman too far. The Undertaker speaks of his resurrection: “you can’t kill what won’t die.” The intentions of ‘Taker have been made clear as Brock Lesnar has officially been placed on notice.
Backstage: Triple H and Stephanie McMahon discuss The Undertaker vs. Brock Lesnar taking place one more time at SummerSlam.
Charlotte vs. Brie Bella
Strong outing from both women. Shades of Ric Flair and Daniel Bryan as Charlotte and Brie have adopted some style from their father and husband respectively. Charlotte, for a second consecutive night would force Brie Belle to tap out to the Figure Eight.
Match Winner: Charlotte
Match Rating: 6.5/10
Backstage: Triple H speaks to Paul Heyman over the phone concerning the Brock Lesnar/Undertaker situation. Triple H insists that Lesnar not show up at Raw; fearing an implosion. The Miz interrupts Triple H; complaining about Big Show. Triple H makes Big Show vs. The Miz for later in the show.
Prime Time Players vs. Los Matadores
Nothing fantastic here … a distraction from The New Day would allow Los Matadores to pick up the victory.
Match Winners: Los Matadores
Match Rating: 3/10
The Miz vs. Big Show
Big Show manhandles The Miz throughout this match – picking up the victory with an elbow from the ropes.
Match Winner: Big Show
Match Rating: 3/10
Post-Match: Big Show grabs a mic and declares that he will take the Intercontinental Championship from Ryback.
Backstage: Triple H and Stephanie run into Paul Heyman … The Advocate explains how he is simply at Raw on behalf Brock Lesnar.
Still Backstage: Triple H and Stephanie assemble much of the WWE roster; informing their employees that they will stand between The Undertaker and Brock Lesnar if in fact The Beast arrives at the building.
In the Ring: Paul Heyman discusses how the sole reason for Brock Lesnar not being the WWE World Heavyweight Champion is due to The Undertaker. Heyman refers to the conquering of The Streak before The Undertaker appears in the ring – backing down Heyman. This leads to Brock Lesnar sprinting down to the ring and The Deadman and The Beast slug it out until security and Superstars are sent in to break up the violence.
Backstage: The fight between The Undertake and Brock Lesnar continues as the Superstars and security struggle to pull both men apart … Lesnar is eventually escorted from the building.
Backstage (Again): Seth Rollins asks Triple H and Stephanie if he could address the WWE Universe.
Bray Wyatt cuts a promo with Luke Harper by his side. The “family” members address Roman Reigns; keeping true to their “anyone but you” slogan.
Roman Reigns w/Dean Ambrose vs. Luke Harper w/Bray Wyatt
This was a rough bout which would see some hard action from Reigns and Harper. The eventual interference from Bray Wyatt would provide Roman Reigns with the victory.
Match Winner: Roman Reigns
Match Rating: 6/10
Post-Match: Bray Wyatt and Luke Harper beat down Roman Reigns and Dean Ambrose before Reigns and Ambrose fight their way back.
Seth Rollins comes out to address the WWE Universe and how they were wrong about his match with Brock Lesnar; boasting about his “retaining” of the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. Rollins asks for Lilian Garcia to enter the ring and make the “official” announcement of his retaining of the title. Following this, John Cena comes down to the ring to slander Seth Rollins and his championship reign. Heated words are exchanged and it appears as though Cena and Rollins will square-off until Rollins backs down and leaves the ring.
Paige and Becky Lynch vs. Sasha Banks and Naomi
Another solid Divas match. The chemistry between Becky Lynch and Sasha Banks has spilled over from NXT to the main roster. Sasha Banks would get Paige to tap out to the Banks Statement for the victory.
Match Winners: Sasha Banks and Naomi
Match Rating: 6.5/10
Backstage: Renee Young interviews Lana about Dolph Ziggler’s injury. Summer Rae interrupts dressed like Lana before Rusev shows up for a kiss. Summer slaps Lana, then leaves.
John Cena, Randy Orton, and Cesaro vs. Kevin Owens, Sheamus, and Rusev
This match would provide some really strong action. Kevin Owens and Sheamus would walk away from the bout; leaving Rusev to take on Cena, Orton, and Cesaro in a losing effort. Great slingshot RKO executed by Cesaro and Orton to end this contest.
Match Winners: John Cena, Randy Orton, and Cesaro
Match Rating: 7/10
