Shinsuke Nakamura finally got his big break and push from the WWE, last eliminating Roman Reigns to win the Royal Rumble. The former New Japan Pro Wrestling Star is now on top of the WWE world, and will headline WrestleMania 34 at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans.
One of the top stories of 2017 was Nakamura’s poor usage by the creative team. The former face of NXT joined the SmackDown Live brand last year, but never got his big push. That all changed on Sunday.
Twitter went bonkers after Nakamura’s well-deserved victory. Here are some of the best reactions we gathered:
Nakamura's win is so significant, because it's rare the WWE gives a Rumble win to someone who isn't proven within WWE. They usually go for the safe, boring pick.
But this was definitely the right call for them. Very happy with this.

We’d like to thank Vince McMahon for finally realizing that Reigns, John Cena and Randy Orton weren’t on the top of fans’ wish list to win the Royal Rumble. But could Nakamura make his way to the English Premier League?
Arsenal have already tabled a bid of £40 million for Nakamura. #royalrumble

Jason Solomon also put together the mindset of the WWE fans perfectly as it came down to the very end:
They did a fantastic job of giving me anxiety those last several minutes and they did the right thing. Styles and Nakamura will be something special, assuming he goes after the @WWE title of course. #RoyalRumble

Nakamura and Styles are among the two most complete and decorated superstars in the WWE today. This match – which features two former NJPW superstars – will be among the most hyped up in recent memory, and rightfully so.
For what it’s worth, WWE Hall of Famer Edge did tell Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated that he would like Nakamura to win the Royal Rumble, believing he and Styles could be an epic match. Wish granted, Mr. Rated R Superstar.
Many fans aren’t just happy about Nakamura winning the Royal Rumble, but also that Reigns won’t be headlining WrestleMania 34 for the fourth-straight year. Change is always nice, and Nakamura is more than deserving as the winner. Sorry Roman, it’s not Nakamura’s yard.
