The Shield’s Roman Reigns defeated The Miz last night on Monday Night Raw to become the new Intercontinental Champion, but the change in title may have had more to do with The Miz’s future availability than anything else.
According to sources speaking with PWInsider, The Miz was pulled from the ring to help film the latest entry in The Marine movie franchise. The Miz has starred in the last three Marine movies, and it looks like he’s about to star in his fourth.
The Marine is a movie franchise produced by WWE Studios, the moviemaking arm of the WWE. They’re not exactly blockbusters, what with every one of them receiving pretty abysmal ratings on Rotten Tomatoes, but they must be profitable otherwise WWE wouldn’t keep making them. They’re up to their sixth entry into The Marine franchise, and it seems Miz will once again don the mantle of ex-marine Sgt. Jake Carter as he uses his panache for violence to make the world a better place.
Or at least the part of the world that Carter cares about.
After his losing effort against Reigns, Miz stuck around the ring to lambaste the people of Houston, blaming them for his defeat. "I am Monday Night Raw,” Miz shouted to a chorus of boos. "I'm the one that made - oh that hurts - the Intercontinental Championship relevant!"
As the Miz limped up the ramp, The Shield appeared with Reigns in the center to cut Miz off. Seth Rollins delivered a wicked kick that laid Miz flat on his back, followed by Ambrose picking him up off the ground and slamming him into the Raw sign. Finally, the three revealed an announcer’s table on stage, while Reigns proceeded to powerbomb the former champion straight through it. An appropriate send-off for the former Intercontinental champ, and catharsis for the people of Houston.
Miz will be off of Raw for the time being until filming is complete.
