The WWE has been able to lay claim to some of the best wrestling talent in the world for some time now. As the top-level promotion in the world, you would expect the in-ring product to be as safe and fluid as it can possibly be. It's the world's biggest stage for wrestling after all, and while near-flawless performances in terms of technique are difficult to expect, the budget and production values almost demand it. To be sure, there are plenty of great in-ring workers currently on the WWE roster, and more so than they've seen in a long time.

But even for technically elite wrestlers, there are going to be some slip-ups here and there. It simply isn't realistic for every move and promo to be executed perfectly every time. Therefore, when a botch does happen, it's often very obvious, and sticks out like a sore thumb. This is understandable from time to time, but it doesn't change the fact that it's a noticeable blunder that detracts from the quality of the match. Let's take a look at some noteworthy mess-ups that we won't soon forget.

Ranked below are 16 recent WWE botches that still make us cringe.

16 Fan Interjects Himself Into The Shield's Entrance

via youtube.com

The reunion of The Shield was certainly one of the bigger WWE headlines of 2017, but it didn't warrant fans actually trying to get in on the action. Perhaps the fan in question here didn't actually have ill-intentions, but at a WWE event, security isn't going to take any chances. There's a far bigger liability than there would be with any other promotion.

Years ago, it wasn't uncommon for fans to run-in to get this close to the action. But the times have changed, and it's not going to be met with the same cavalier attitude and level of expectance. This fan got tossed very quickly, and the same thing would happen 99-percent of the time in this day and age.

15 Enzo's Awkward Rope Bump

via gfycat.com

He may be gone now, but it's no secret that nobody was watching Enzo for supreme in-ring ability. Far and away a better talent on the mic, his matches often left a lot to be desired, even if they weren't outright awful. His inexperience often showed through, such as in this match against Cesaro, where he awkwardly tries to finish the top-rope spot, after improperly bouncing off the ropes to begin it.

Taking away the very serious allegations that were made against him, he may not have been with the company anyway had they not occurred. This is a terrible looking spot. The worst of it is that he actually could have saved it by naturally just walking out of the ring, but the exaggerated bump to the outside, after he had already bounced the ropes just looks silly.

14 Torrie Wilson Botches At The Rumble

via gfycat.com

The first incarnation of the Women's Royal Rumble this year was a massive success, and one of the most talked-about aspects of the show at large. Naturally, we got numerous returning female WWE stars from years past. Among them was Torrie Wilson, and while she's kept herself in fantastic physical condition, it's clear that she hasn't been doing much in the way of actual wrestling since her departure.

She botches this very simple corner spot, and is reliant on Sonya Deville to save the move at all, and it comes past when it could have been salvageable. Thankfully, they kept Wilson's time in the match short, and let the more recent Women's Division talent carry the bulk of the match.

13 Roman Reigns Flubs A Samoan Drop

via gfycat.com

Whatever your opinion on Roman Reigns is as a talent, there's no question that he's now been in his fair share of big matches. More than most WWE talents get to participate in over their tenure. So when he messes up on one of his signature moves, against a certified wrestling legend, it doesn't do anything to help his cause in the perception of the fans.

Reigns muffs this samoan drop attempt on an episode of Raw, and it really is a terrible attempt at executing the move. Moreover, the coverup attempt after the botch was just as bad, and the the whole spot was ruined. At least it wasn't on a major show, which is about the only good thing you can say about this one, but it's still an obvious error all the same.

12 Kalisto's Entrance Blunder

via gfycat.com

Often times, the entrances for those in the cruiserweight division are lightning fast and borderline majestic. As some of the best athletes in any wrestling promotion, it's no surprise they're able to even make their ring entrances look aesthetically appealing on an athletic level. But even they are liable for a slip-up at times.

While a ring entrance botch is often the most embarrassing of all, at least Kalisto's in this instance involved a difficult feat of athleticism to some degree. Plus, he was able to recover fairly well, and make the transition the least awkward it could probably be. From years of seeing Rey Mysterio execute such entrances without a hitch however, this does pale in comparison.

11 The Table Is Mightier Than Dean Ambrose

via gfycat.com

Table spots have been a wrestling tradition for a long time now (in WWE specifically, spearheaded by The Dudley Boyz), and they're still effective when they're done correctly, in the right situation. When they're botched however, they turn into a match momentum-killer, and a disappointment for the fans in attendance. Clearly, Ambrose has been on the wrong end of this spot on numerous occasions.

Even though he had mostly veteran workers in the ring with him for these botched table spots, he still couldn't get the thing to break. Whether it was just bad luck, or not falling correctly, Ambrose came out on the wrong end of this exchange in multiple instances.

10 No-Go For DDT On Jinder Mahal

via gfycat.com

When you're a limited worker and overall talent like Mahal is, the least you can do is take a decent bump and attempt to sell a move correctly. Unfortunately, in this tag match facing Randy Orton, Mahal did nothing of the sort. Whether it was a brain-freeze in the middle of the match, or getting cold feet at the prospect of taking the move, Mahal ruined the entire sequence.

It ended up looking nothing short of ridiculous, and for a signature move like this for Orton, it lessened the overall quality of the match. The hit or miss nature of Smackdown Live makes this somewhat forgivable, but it's still an egregious error.

9 Gronk Stopped By Security At WrestleMania

via gfycat.com

A crossover celebrity like Rob Gronkowski making a run-in at a WrestleMania undercard match is exactly the kind of thing WWE can get away with on such a show. Among the greatest NFL players of his generation, he's also a pure entertainer, so it makes sense that there would be mutual interest for this.

However, if you're going to have someone in street clothes make a run-in from the crowd, you should probably alert the security on hand at the event first. Gronk was held up for a second and pushed into the guardrail, only until it was confirmed that this was actually supposed to happen as part of the show.

8 Bayley Whiffs Twice On Elbow Drop

via gfycat.com

Bayley's Raw Women's Championship run in 2017 was met with mixed reactions, but at least she was a change of pace, and generated discussion around the title. While she's far from the best female in-ring worker in the company, generally Bayley is able to provide a decent match. This spot was the exception to that, and man was it ever a bad one.

She loses her balance on the first attempt at dropping the elbow 0n Alexa Bliss, caught in the tree of woe in the corner, and was never able to execute the springboard off the bottom rope to begin with. Frustrated, she reforms for another attempt, and while she executes the springboard, the elbow comes nowhere near making solid contact with Bliss. Just a poorly executed attempt at what should have been a simple move.

7 Ring Steps Catch Braun Strowman The Wrong Way

Whenever performing a spot with any kind of a weapon, it's imperative that an additional amount of percussion is taken. We all know that Reigns isn't always the smoothest in-ring worker, but in situations like this, he should be more careful. This is really nothing short of just sloppy work on a relatively routine weapon spot.

WWE outlawed bleeding (or "blading") a while ago, so any time it happens in the present day, you know an accident occurred. Adding blood used to be a great way to further dramatize a big match, but when it doesn't happen on purpose, that means it was a clear botch. Worse yet, it came on a big card, at SummerSlam last year. That simply shouldn't happen.

6 Matt Hardy Fails To Break Up The 3-Count

via gfycat.com

Maybe it's Mattitude just getting long in the tooth, or maybe he just missed his cue, but he wasn't able to complete this simple pinfall save on Raw. The shoulders of Dean Ambrose are clearly still down on the mat when the referee only counts to two, and Hardy is seen staggering into the ring, obviously too late to break it up in time.

Such a simple spot shouldn't really be missed, and it looks incredibly bad on live television. There's really no way to cover up this error; Hardy was either too slow in getting to the spot, or he missed his cue all together. Either way, not a good look, but considering all of Hardy's WWE accomplishments, we can give him a pass on this one.

5 Nakamura Drops Cena On His Head

via uproxx.com

Now this one is a rarity. Shinsuke Nakamura is one of the best workers in the world today, with some of the best technique. For him to make an error like this is truly an outlier, and luckily, it didn't result in any kind of an injury for Cena. He reverses Cena's AA finisher, and counters into a suplex, only to position Cena on the wrong angle to take the fall.

It's clear that Nakamura was upset after this match on Smackdown Live, because he's a perfectionist in the ring who wants every match to be clean, without injury. It didn't happen here, but it did come close. Thankfully, someone with his skill level isn't likely to make the same mistake twice.

4 F-5 Fail

via gfycat.com

If you wanted any more proof that Lesnar's most recent involvement in the title scene has been stagnant, and the result of a lazy amount of effort, look no further than this failed F-5 attempt. While a normal wrestler may have difficulty performing their signature move on someone the size of Kane, Lesnar is expected to get this done, as someone who has been pushed endlessly, and is booked as an utter monster.

It's clear that the effort just isn't there from Lesnar anymore, and missed moves like this, when he clearly has the ability to perform them, are a big indicator of this. It's fair to say that Lesnar has jumped the shark on his WWE career, and this current title run should, and most likely will, be his last.

3 JBL Trips On His Way To The Ring... Twice

via gfycat.com

There are a lot of people that surely had a laugh at one of the most maligned WWE Champions of all-time taking a fall trying to get to the ring. Bradshaw simply lost his footing, and ate it twice. Once on the entrance ramp, and once coming from the announce-table, on a Smackdown Live episode, and at The Elimination Chamber, respectively.

He was never the most athletic when he was in the ring, but it seems like JBL's coordination has taken a turn for the worse. These aren't serious gaffes on his part, but they sure are embarrassing.

2 The MizTV Segment With The Ball Family

via gfycat.com

There hasn't been a larger provocateur in the sporting world over the past several years than LaVar Ball, so naturally he was a candidate for something like this. Comedic segments have had a place in WWE for years, and this was on the level of some of the wackiest antics ever seen on their programming.

Even The Miz seemed to be at a loss for words. Whatever your opinion on the Ball family is, there's no doubt that they've crossed over into just about every facet of mainstream society. WWE probably shouldn't put them in a segment ever again, but for a laugh at the height of their popularity, it made sense at the time. There's no denying that the segment was pretty cringeworthy, however.

1 Tornado DDT Botch From Styles And Lesnar

via gfycat.com

A.J. Styles has shown that he can carry just about anyone to a good match, and Lesnar was his next challenge at the time, in Survivor Series of last year. Unfortunately, the match didn't go off without problems, such as this flubbed tornado DDT attempt in the corner. Styles, in a rare mistake in the ring, doesn't get the proper elevation to reach the top turnbuckle. From there, Lesnar panics, and twists his body around, sending A.J. to the mat.

With as clumsy of a worker as Lesnar is, Styles had to be perfect in this match, and he wasn't. But there's still a canyon between the two in terms of in-ring quality. Hopefully, we can see Styles be involved in more matches with opponents that are up to his level of excellence. The match with Nakamura at WrestleMania for example, promises to be an instant classic.

In contrast, let's hope Lesnar decides to walk away from the business all together.
