WWE Backstage host and WWE announcer Renee Young has described what it's been like working with CM Punk, who she says is growing into his role as a co-host on the FOX show.

Punk is in league with WWE again, sort of, although he likes to stress on the fact that he works for FOX and not the wrestling promotion. Fans couldn't care less, though, they're just happy to have the former superstar back on TV.

Having turned down offers to return to the ring, Punk has been offering his wit and wisdom on the new WWE studio show and Renee seems to be enjoying having him aboard.

The announcer spoke to TV Insider ahead of Tuesday's show and would discuss how it's been working with the ex-WWE and UFC personality. She described his involvement as a "win for everybody all around," claiming that it has been fun watching him get more comfortable as the host of a TV show.

Fans did note that Punk looked a lot less edgy on this week's Backstage episode, one in which he made a comical suggestion as it relates to booking the likes of Rusev, Bobby Lashley and Lana moving forward.

“I saw on my timeline he likened it to the frozen caveman coming back to life and checking out the wrestling world again,” she remarked. “Fans respect Punk so much, to see him back in any capacity of the wrestling world is a huge win for everybody all around. To see him get more comfortable in that spot, it’s fun. It’s cool to be there with him side-by-side as he is dipping his toe back into this world.

“To hear his perspective and share that on television, I’m looking forward to seeing what happens this week coming up as we always look for that honest opinion from him. Anything that strays from that would be a misstep. We want that unfiltered Punk on our show.”

While Punk is settling back into wrestling circles, the biggest question looming pertains to the possibility of an in-ring return. It is hoped that the erstwhile Straight-Edge Superstar will compete at WrestleMania next year but Young does not see it happening.

"Everybody wants to see CM Punk back in the ring," she added. "Does he want to come back in the ring? I truly don’t know. It seems like a never say never situation. I don’t foresee it happening in the near future.”

Who Knows?

We imagine Renee would have a bit of insight now that she works closely with Punk. Adversely, we don't imagine him doing anything other than keeping those particular cards close to his chest.

It's reported that WWE wants him back in the ring for their biggest wrestling event of 2020 but it's something we'll just have to wait on.
