There is a report surfacing that WWE had nowhere near the plans they have now with Brock Lesnar and this year's Royal Rumble. Apparently, the shift in direction is massive and change of lot of what the company had planned over the next few months.

Sportskeeda's Tom Colohue has recently suggested that Brock Lesnar's original role at this year's Royal Rumble was not at all what WWE has presented to fans over the past week. Lesnar came out on Monday's Raw and said he'd be entering the Rumble match as the reigning champion at the No. 1 spot. On the latest edition of Sportskeeda's Dropkick DiSKussions podcast with host Korey Gunz, Colohue said he wasn't even supposed to be in the Rumble and a much bigger one-on-one match was scheduled.

The Beast was originally slated to have a rematch against Cain Velasquez at the PPV but WWE deemed Velasquez as not ready for such a big spotlight. The exact words were, "However, the company reportedly lost faith in the former UFC Champion and the match was nixed."

Colohue went on to reveal later on in the podcast that something may have gone wrong in WWE's planning and it forced WWE to make a major shift in their booking strategy, put Lesnar in the Royal Rumble match and gave the WWE Universe what they witnessed on Monday.

The plan is still not to have Lesnar win the Rumble but be set-up with a future opponent in during the Rumble and heading toward WrestleMania 36.

WWE Made Lemonade Out Of Lemons

If this report is accurate and Velasquez is not ready yet, WWE did the right thing here. The idea to put Lesnar in the match is a creative one and it opens up the door for a lot of options, including Velasquez making an appearance and costing Lesnar the win.
