It looked like earlier rumors Rey Mysterio was returning to WWE were dead-on. WWE seemingly not interested in the former WWE Champion, word was Mysterio was going to Impact Wrestling and that promotion would push Mysterio as their next big star. The Royal Rumble proved plans can change in an instant.
Late in the Rumble, when it seemed like most of the surprises were done, the familiar “619” appeared on the screen and a Rey Mysterio appeared, in better shape than he’s arguably ever been since joining the WWE to enter the Rumble at number 27 and signify what looks to be a return to the WWE.
Whether this return is a one-night event or a final run with the company is uncertain, but based on what Mysterio showed, he’s got the stuff to not only show he’s still got the goods, but he’s in such good shape, he could challenge for a number of titles in the WWE.

The first thought is that WWE must have considered the need for something positive in the Cruiserweight Division. After releasing Enzo Amore, WWE may be looking for a new face to lead 205 Live into 2018. He may even get consideration as the new general manager.
The second thought is that Mysterio is back on the main roster and the WWE will be pushing him in a program leading into WrestleMania 34. Signing Mysterio gives the WWE another bullet in the chamber of star power and there are multiple options when it comes to high-quality matches he could have with a number of talents on the current roster.
One thing is certain. Mysterio’s return was a huge and pleasant surprise for most in the WWE Universe. His signing takes away a huge acquisition from Impact Wrestling and he gives the WWE another Latino star when the company is always looking for international opportunities.
