Rey Mysterio Earns A Universal Title Shot On Raw

Five men competed for the chance to face Seth Rollins for the Universal Title on Raw. Rey Mysterio was the man who emerged victorious.

At Hell In A Cell, Bray Wyatt will get his shot at the Universal Championship. However, what is still up in the air who he will face come October 6, 2019. Seth Rollins might be the champion now, but on Raw next week, just six days before HIAC, he will need to defend the championship against the winner of Monday night's Fatal Five Way.

That match featured Ricochet, Rey Mysterio, AJ Styles, Shinsuke Nakamura, and Robert Roode. Each man was eliminated one-by-one until only Mysterio and Roode were left, two men we were not expecting to win. The back and forth continued and eventually, Mysterio managed to put away Roode. The veteran luchador will get his shot at the title during the season premiere of Raw six days from now.

RUMOR: Robert Roode Is About To Receive A Major Push

It was only a matter of weeks ago that Mysterio hinted he was going to retire only to be prevented from doing so by his son Dominick. Before the match on Monday night, Mysterio revealed that he was dedicating the match to his son for persuading him to keep on wrestling. We should have known then that the luchador was going to win the match.

We half expected Wyatt to get involved in the match, or at least interfere after it. However, we had forgotten that the five-way wasn't the main event. That had been reserved for Rollins versus Braun Strowman. That's where The Fiend decided to show his face. During the match, the lights went out, and Wyatt appeared. Once again, he did no harm to his potential future opponent. Instead, he delivered the Mandible Claw to Strowman not once, but twice.

Chances are Mysterio and Rollins will have a terrific match on Monday, but the title won't change hands. During what will be the biggest week in wrestling for two decades, WWE won't want to go tweaking main event matches six days before a PPV. It will also want the HIAC main event to be as appealing as possible. No offence to Mysterio, but for that reason alone, it needs to be Rollins versus Wyatt.
