Ring of Honor (ROH) has officially announced Arrow's own Stephen Amell will appear at one of their shows. One can say that the highest point of Cody Rhodes' poorly-received WWE run as Stardust was his feud with a celebrity Stephen Amell, who plays Oliver Queen/Green Arrow in the DC Comics-based television series Arrow. It was one of the better celebrity appearances WWE has showcased in recent years, and now that Rhodes is over a year removed from his WWE release—and doing great in the independent scene—it would appear that his connection with the actor will soon be revisited.
Amell’s ROH appearance appears to be the popular independent promotion’s answer to what NXT has on tap in San Antonio on that very same day. On Nov. 17, 2017, Drew McIntyre will be defending his NXT Championship against Adam Cole, but the main selling point of that match would arguably be the presence of hometown boy and WWE Hall of Famer Shawn Michaels serving as special guest referee.
Meanwhile, ROH’s answer to the show-stopping presence of the Heartbreak Kid at an NXT title match comes in the form of a celebrity guest appearance from a man who had once feuded with ROH World Champion Cody Rhodes in the WWE. ROH isn't going into detail about Stephen Amell's guest appearance, but it won't be surprising if the American Nightmare is involved in one way or another.
For those who need a backgrounder on the Amell vs. Stardust feud, it culminated in 2015, as both men faced off at SummerSlam in a tag team match, with Neville teaming with Amell and doing most of the work, and Stardust aligning with Wade Barrett, during his “King Barrett” phase. Neville and Amell ended up winning the match, and Amell got some good reviews for his performance, winning a Slammy Award for Celebrity Moment of the Year in 2015.
Yes, it's worth noting that all four men involved in the aforementioned tag team match at SummerSlam 2015 are no longer with (or no longer expected to be with) the WWE, which would make an indie rematch involving everyone involved fairly plausible. But since Barrett is focused on acting and Neville is still technically part of the WWE roster, we wouldn't mind seeing both central characters in the rivalry face off in ROH just a week and a half from now. After all, Amell stands out from most celebrity wrestling guests by being an actual wrestling fan, and by giving it his 100 percent in his guest appearances – there's simply no phoning it in when it comes to the Green Arrow.
