This title reign started with Rock winning a Ladder Match to get the WWE Championship, heading into WrestleMania XV. Rock held the title mostly so that a strong heel could face off against Steve Austin on the biggest show of the year, where Austin won the gold.

9 Second-to-last WCW Champion

The WCW Championship moved to WWE when Vince McMahon purchased his competition. Rock would hold the WCW Championship twice during the summer and fall of 2001 when the Invasion storyline took place. The end of the Invasion angle saw Rock standing tall as WCW Champion.

Rock would hold the title for over a month before losing it to Chris Jericho, as Jericho went on to become the Undisputed Champion after beating Rock and Steve Austin on the same night. The short run allowed Rock to be the last man to call himself the WCW Champion, since Jericho was known as the Undisputed Champion.

8 Ending Triple H's reign

Triple H and The Rock were bitter enemies in the year 2000, feuding over the WWE Championship with Steve Austin on the sideline with an injury. The Rock would win the title at Backlash 2000, in a classic match against Triple H with Shane McMahon as the referee.

Austin made a shocking return, helping Rock by taking out the rest of the McMahon family trying to help Triple H. Rock won the WWE Championship but only held it for about a month. The title reign didn’t rank as high as the others, but it was a fun short run.

7 Title reign before leaving for Hollywood

The Rock started to make his move towards Hollywood in 2002, with many big projects heading his way. Undertaker lost to the title to The Rock in the summer of 2002, as Rock moved forward in a huge feud with Brock Lesnar. The story of the face of the franchise vs a new rising star led to great interest.

Rock only held the title for a little over a month, but had a great reign. The match to win the title, defeating Undertaker and Kurt Angle, was a classic. Lesnar became an instant credible champion when ending Rock’s reign, which is all you can ask for from a losing champion on the way out.

6 Heading into WrestleMania X-Seven collision

WrestleMania X-Seven is considered one of the biggest shows in WWE history, partially due to the incredible main event between The Rock and Steve Austin. Rock defeated Kurt Angle one PPV earlier to win the WWE Championship and set the stage for such a match.

Austin defeated Rock by turning heel and aligning with Vince McMahon. Rock would only hold the gold for 35 days, but he was clearly needed to set up this classic main event. This was the peak for the Attitude Era with the WWE Championship holding great importance.

5 Returning for one more title run

The Rock’s return to WWE in the early 2010s was polarizing, but the company clearly benefited from it. WWE broke box office records with Rock facing off with John Cena in back to back WrestleMania main events. The latter featured Rock defending the WWE Championship for the last time.

Rock defeated CM Punk to end Punk’s 434-day title reign. Rock's title reign started at Royal Rumble 2013 and ended at WrestleMania 29. Cena scored his win back over Rock and started his reign as the champion as Rock went back to Hollywood.

4 First WCW Championship reign

The Rock’s first WCW Championship reign came shortly after returning from his first break to pursue his acting career. WWE’s Invasion storyline dominated the summer and Rock returned in time to help represent WWE in a feud against WCW Champion Booker T.

The two had good chemistry and even used some of the same moves. Rock defeated Booker in the main event of SummeSlam 2001, adding the WCW Championship to his accomplishments. The title reign lasted about three months, with impressive matches against Booker, Shane McMahon and Chris Jericho.

3 Ending Mankind's reign in all-time brutal match

The Rock vs Mankind

The I Quit Match between Mankind and The Rock at Royal Rumble 1999 remains one of the most horrifying matches in WWE history. Rock hit Mankind with a chair over the head 11 times as Mankind was handcuffed and unable to block the blows.

The brutal match added another string to Rock's bow, as he won the WWE Championship again. This reign only lasted 27 days before Mankind won it back, but it helped cement Rock as a tough and violent heel in addition to his great character work.

2 Heel turn winning first championship

The Rock's first WWE Championship win came in a shocking moment at Survivor Series 1998. WWE vacated the title, with big names like Rock, Steve Austin, Mankind, Undertaker and many others competing in a one-night tournament.

Mankind represented the McMahon family, while fans cheered for Rock entering the main event. A double turn would see Rock get the help of Vince and Shane to steal the win. Rock not only won his first world title but united with the two most hated personalities to form The Corporation faction.
