WWE superstar Roman Reigns has been absent for nearly a full month since coming down with the mumps virus. He had to sit out The Shield's reunion at the TLC pay-per-view event and was replaced by Raw GM Kurt Angle.
With Survivor Series now 10 days away, there was hope that Reigns would be cleared and ready to return to the ring. Well, Mike Johnson of PWInsider.com is reporting that Reigns has, in fact, been cleared and is ready to wrestle again. Johnson also noted the plan is for The Shield to reunite again, and will face The New Day at Survivor Series.
So, it appears as though the anticipated Shield reunion match is finally about to happen. After nearly two-and-a-half years, Reigns, Dean Ambrose, and Seth Rollins will team up in the ring for an official Shield match.
The original expectation was that Rollins and Ambrose (then the Raw Tag Team Champions would face The Usos (SmackDown Tag Team Champions), at Survivor Series. However, Ambrose and Rollins lost their titles to Sheamus and Cesaro on this week's edition Raw. As a result, The Usos will take on the new champions.
Reigns last appeared on the Oct. 16, 2017, episode of Monday Night Raw. He faced Braun Strowman in a Steel Cage match, but lost after Kane returned and interfered to help The Monster Among Men emerge victorious.
Without Reigns, The Shield recruited Kurt Angle and defeated Team Miz in the main event of TLC. It was Angle's first match with the WWE in 11 years, and he did a fine job replacing the hole left by Reigns.
The Shield will look for vengeance against The New Day, who invaded Raw and caused a distraction that helped Sheamus and Cesaro win the title belts. This time, Ambrose and Rollins will have The Big Dog. And more importantly, The Shield's reunion will finally, finally happen.
