Backstage News: Why Rousey Is Appearing At Elimination Chamber

Apparently, WWE has added Ronda Rousey to the Elimination Chamber card in order to boost ticket sales for the event.

Judging by what Ronda Rousey said to ESPN directly after her appearance at the Royal Rumble last month, it felt like she was going to be hitting the road with WWE full time. That hasn't happened of course and there were even pointers that the former UFC Bantamweight Champion wouldn't be returning to the company until April 8, 2018, at WrestleMania.

Thankfully that has not proven to be the case and while we haven't seen Rousey for almost three weeks, we have been told when she will appear in WWE next. This past Monday night on Raw, Kurt Angle announced that The Rowdy One will be in attendance at Elimination Chamber on Feb. 25, 2018, so that she can "officially" sign her Raw contract.

However, according to No DQ this wasn't always the plan. The site reported this week that Rousey was actually meant to appear on an episode of Raw sometime between now and WrestleMania to take part in a contract signing, but ticket sales are a little low for the Elimination Chamber pay-per-view at the moment and WWE is hoping the addition of Rousey to the event will boost those sales somewhat.

One of the most interesting things that has been revealed via this announcement is that Rousey will be a Raw Superstar. Fans have been speculating who the former UFC star will be facing in WWE first and it seems that first person will be a member of the red brand. Presumably, that means a dream match against SmackDown Women's Champion Charlotte Flair is off the cards for now, despite The Nature Boy calling Rousey out on her behalf recently.

So on Feb. 25, 2018, Ronda Rousey will really begin her WWE career, we hope. For Raw the road to WrestleMania will really ramp up the night after Elimination Chamber and if Rousey has a match in New Orleans then she will need to be around, preferably on a weekly basis, for the build to it. Every woman on the roster will want that first match against her on April 8, 2018, and in just a few short weeks we will know who will be getting that opportunity.
