The Royal Rumble is the next major date on the WWE calendar, and it seems as if NXT will be just as involved as it was in Survivor Series.

The 2020 Royal Rumble PPV is now less than a month away. Royal Rumble is arguably the most anticipated show of the year, even more than WrestleMania for some people due to how unique it is. The PPV's marquee match is a 30-Superstar over-the-top-rope match to decide who gets a World Title shot at WrestleMania.

For the past two Royal Rumble events, fans have been treated to two Royal Rumble matches. That's due to female Superstars now having their own Royal Rumble. That will be the same again next month when the matches take place in Philadelphia. Plus, according to Bryan Alvarez of Wrestling Observer Newsletter (H/T The Exposed Turnbuckle), NXT will be getting in on the fun.

According to those reports, the participants for both Royal Rumble matches will be evenly split between WWE's three major brands. That means Raw will get ten entrants, SmackDown will get ten, and NXT will get ten. It won't be the first time NXT stars have appeared in Royal Rumble matches, but it would be the first time there has been an even split between brands like this.

NXT has had a much bigger bearing on the WWE product as a whole ever since it moved to the USA Network earlier this year. Shortly after that move, the black and gold brand took part in the battle for brand supremacy at Survivor Series for the first time. NXT's inclusion in those storylines greatly boosted its weekly TV ratings, so it adds up that WWE would want its Superstars to rub shoulders with the rest of the company again next month.

As for the downside, if this is WWE's plan, and it broadcasts that ahead of time, that eliminates the ability to enter legends and retired stars into the match. One of the reasons Royal Rumble matches are so popular with fans is due to the fact that there are always a few surprises. If all Superstars entering are assigned to specific brands, there'll be so room for those shock entries. It might even eliminate any hope of CM Punk making a comeback in that match.
