A new deal between Daniel Bryan and the WWE might not be as close to done as some might have thought. Last week it was being reported that Bryan was asking for "a reasonable amount of creative control" as part of his new deal and the reports are that the WWE has offered him a 3-year contract extension. However, Bryan hasn't signed the contract yet. And according to DirtySheets, one reason for the two sides not being able to come to an agreement yet could be John Cena.

The report is saying that Cena has offered Bryan some advice about his contract negotiations and has told him to hire ICM Partners to negotiate his extension. ICM Partners' advice to Bryan has been to ask for as much as possible from the WWE before re-signing.

Supposedly, there is the expectation from Bryan that this deal he signs with the WWE will be his last with the company, so it makes sense to get as much as he can out of it - especially after having to fight and fight for the last two years just to be allowed back in the ring.

Bryan also has the advantage in the negotiations given his tremendous popularity (his merch is a huge seller, he is a big star on Total Bellas and they are expecting him to be a key face on SmackDown when the show moves to FOX next year). And with him now cleared to wrestle again, the WWE knows that he has loads of options outside of the WWE - New Japan would be his expected landing spot were he to leave the WWE.

Right now the WWE is refusing to give Bryan more than just a midcard push because of they do not have a signed extension yet. However, if the two sides can come to an agreement than the WWE universe can expect to see Bryan get the mega push fans desperately want to see following SummerSlam - taking place on August 19th.
