There were rumors John Cena was allowed to pick his role at WrestleMania. If true, he chose to wrestle The Fiend, Bray Wyatt. Why?

Cena's upcoming match with Bray Wyatt at WrestleMania 36 won't be his first. In fact, these two have met a few times in the ring before. Apparently, it's their WWE title match at Elimination Chamber in 2017 that leads Cena and Wyatt to meeting again in just about one month's time.

Sportskeeda's Tom Colohue spoke about Cena's opinion of Wyatt and called Cena one of the few real Wyatt believers. Thinking, even back then, that Wyatt had the goods to be a major player for the company, in 2017, Cena requested Wyatt pin him in their match. Not only that, but Cena wanted an immediate rematch on the follow-up SmackDown program and wanted Wyatt to pin him again. This really would have cemented Wyatt as a huge star in WWE.

Instead, on that episode of SmackDown, WWE decided to add AJ Styles to the match and have Luke Harper attack Wyatt. The way Cena wanted that rematch to unfold never happened.

Colohue explains that this hasn't sat well with John Cena since it happened. He adds, "I'm confident that he wanted to come back as it were to right a bit of a wrong and help rebuild Bray Wyatt. To help build Bray Wyatt."

Cena Wants Wyatt Back On Top

While Wyatt is no longer the Wyatt of 2017, Cena obviously still thinks the person who plays the part has the ability to take whatever character (in this case, The Fiend) and make it a huge star. We can only imagine what Cena was thinking when he watched Goldberg pin the champion at the Super ShowDown.

If Colohue's report is accurate, it must mean Cena has come back to take a clean pin from The Fiend and WWE must have figured that letting Cena take the loss might erase any damage The Fiend losing had on his momentum.
