A new report reveals that WWE is struggling to sell tickets to NXT TakeOver: Chicago II.

It’s not every day you hear stories that WWE is struggling to fill seats for a pay-per-view event. In fact, most often the headlines read sold out crowds. But for whatever reason, the latest NXT event is just not drawing a crowd, and both WWE and wrestling insiders are scratching their heads trying to figure out why.

As reported by Dave Meltzer over at the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE has sold approximately 7,000 tickets to the Allstate Arena in Rosemont Illinois thus far - over 10,000 short of capacity for the venue just outside Chicago. With just over three weeks before NXT arrives in town, it’s a mystery why NXT fans aren’t rushing to purchase tickets.

It’s even stranger since the following day’s event, WWE’s Money In The Bank, is selling just fine. So far we know that pay-per-view event will feature AJ Styles defend his WWE Championship title against Shinsuke Nakamura in a last man standing match.

In fact, it’s that last man standing match that caused a recent change in the upcoming bout between Tommaso Ciampa and Johnny Gargano. Their matchup, rumored to be at NXT TakeOver: Chicago II but still not yet confirmed, was originally going to be a last man standing battle but has since been changed to a street fight due to the Money In The Bank stipulation.

So far the only confirmed bout at NXT TakeOver will be Oney Lorcan and Danny Burch squaring off against the current WWE NXT Tag Team Champions Kyle O'Reilly and Roderick Strong of The Undisputed Era. However, expected matchups also include NXT Women's Champion Shayna Baszler defending her title against Nikki Cross and NXT Champion Aleister Black taking on Lars Sullivan in his own title defense.

With these hot matchups expected it’s a wonder why TakeOver: Chicago II hasn’t already sold out. It may just be a blip in the WWE accounting books, or it may be a strange downturn in the Greater Chicago Area’s wrestling fans. We’ll have to keep our eyes open for what happens between now and June 16th.
