While not confirmed, WWE seemed to hint during the TLC pay-per-view that SummerSlam might include a huge 20-yr anniversary match.

As the Tables, Ladders and Chairs natch between Roman Reigns and Baron Corbin got underway Sunday night, Michael Cole made an interesting statement: at SummerSlam this year, The Tables, Ladders and Chairs Match will be 20 years old.

A match brought into existence and thrust into the spotlight by The Dudley Boys, The Hardy’s and Edge and Christian, at a SummerSlam 2000, that match put all three teams on the map and cemented that tag team division as one of the best ever in WWE. Those three teams would go on to have multiple similar matches, tear the house down and WWE would turn that stipulation into a pay-per-view.

Cole specifically name dropped all of the competitors in that bout, leaving the door wide open to a reunion.

SummerSlam is one of WWE’s biggest shows of the year and has been known to see the return of a Superstar or two, last year being Trish Stratus. Could WWE put a tag team bout together and features these three teams again?

How Would That Match Work?

It’s highly unlikely any of the six men would wrestle on a match like that (except maybe the Hardys) but what if each tag team repped another team currently in the company? Maybe each team manages someone else?

There are a number of possibilities considering all six former stars are still closely aligned with WWE and have made recent appearances in the past , if not still under contract.

WWE hasn’t confirmed any such reunion but the way Cole mentioned the importance of that match in the history of WWE, it shouldn’t shock anyone if WWE tries to really promote that anniversary and make something special out of it.

Perhaps it becomes a match that catapults three new teams into superstardom, just like it did when the Dudleys, Hardys and Edge and Christian became legends.
