Sami Zayn broke character while at ringside during a live event over the weekend and if what he is saying below is true, it was for very good reason.

There was once a time in the wrestling business when it was considered sacrilegious for a competitor to break character in front of the fans. Heels and babyfaces would even travel separately, no matter if a good guy was friends with a bad guy, as to not take away from the rivalries wrestlers had in the ring.

While that is still somewhat true, it's not to the level that it used to be. The social media boom has rendered that almost impossible. Some wrestlers have even decided to lean into it, using their real names rather than their ring names on Twitter and openly admitting that the person fans see on TV each week is merely a character they play.

What fans don't often see is wrestlers breaking character while on the job. It takes something very special or in this case, something pretty horrible. Footage of Sami Zayn breaking character was caught by a fan at a Daytona WWE live event on Sunday night and posted on Twitter via SI Wrestling. As you can see, Zayn is pretty wound up about something the fan said. Be warned, it contains language some may find offensive.

Although whatever the fan said to have Zayn react in such a way wasn't recorded, judging by what the Superstar says during the confrontation, the fan allegedly made homophobic comments. It's hard to hear the fans' side of the conversation, but Zayn can be heard referring to him as a "homophobic moron" and asking him to say it louder so everyone can hear him.

As you can also hear and see, Bray Wyatt's entrance is taking place as the confrontation is ongoing. Wyatt competed against Shinsuke Nakamura inside of a steel cage for the Universal Championship, which The Fiend one. As for what was going on outside of the ring, we hope Zayn isn't punished for what he did and said if he was indeed correct about what the fan was saying, but we do hope the fan is found and punished.
