Sami Zayn did not compete in Saudi Arabia at Greatest Royal Rumble and we're told it was NOT due to his own request, despite a report stating otherwise.

WrestlingNews.co reported any wrestler who objected going to the event was allowed to pass on the trip and that Sami took them up on the offer because he's of Syrian descent, due to their strained diplomatic ties with Saudi Arabia.

However, sources tell us the decision was not is his own. And similar to the women, Sami Zayn was not booked to compete on the show to respect the local culture in Saudi Arabia.

The statement released by WWE says, "WWE is committed to embracing individuals from all backgrounds while respecting local customs and cultural differences around the world."
