UPDATE:

WWE.com is now reporting that Samoa Joe suffered a right foot injury, and it's feared that he has a rupture in his plantar fascia. He may need a walking boot and crutches, and a timeline for his return is unknown at this time.

Original story:

PWInsider.com is reporting that WWE superstar Samoa Joe was injured during last night's episode of Monday Night Raw, and has been pulled from the upcoming Mixed Match Challenge.

There aren't any further details as of now on what the injury is, nor its severity. With Joe sidelined, Elias will now team up with Bayley. Fans originally got to vote who they wanted to compete through Facebook, and Joe was selected.

Enzo Amore was also pulled from the Mixed Match Challenge last week after suffering a flu virus that left him briefly hospitalized. He was then replaced by Apollo Crews, who will team up with Nia Jax.

Samoa Joe injured his knee during a house show in August, missing two months of action before returning on Oct. 30. His injury comes at a bad time, as he's in the midst of an excellent feud with Roman Reigns. The Royal Rumble is also less than three weeks away, so the hope is that Joe will be able to return by then.

It's safe to say the WWE hasn't been accustomed to so many injuries to its main superstars over a short period of time. Another main event star in Dean Ambrose will reportedly be out for nine months after suffering a brutal tear in his triceps. Big Cass has been out since August with a torn ACL, though the hope is that he'll be able to return in time for WrestleMania 34.

Joe easily defeated Rhyno on this week's episode of Raw, then cut a brief promo. He didn't seem injured at all during or after the match, so that's at least a positive sign that his injury may not be serious.

WWE simply cannot afford more injuries to its top superstars, especially as they build up the road to WrestleMania. We'll get more information on Joe soon, and will be sure to update you with the latest.
