Samoa Joe's Injury Expected Keep Him Out Of Royal Rumble

An injury Samoa Joe picked up this past Monday night on Raw may keep him on the sidelines so long that he misses the Royal Rumble.

The Royal Rumble is not only one of WWE's biggest four pay-per-views of the year, it's probably the most highly anticipated event for the company outside of WrestleMania. This year's Rumble pay-per-view is going to be bigger than ever. Not only will there be the regularly scheduled 30 man over the top rope match, but for the first time ever, there will be an all women's version also.

As has become commonplace in the past couple of years, Superstars will declare their entry into the Royal Rumble in the weeks building to the match. It seems as if every woman currently not holding a title on Raw and SmackDown Live will be filling out the spots on the female side of things, and so far in the men's Rumble, the likes of Elias, John Cena, and Randy Orton have declared their entry.

Another man who announced that he would be competing in the 30 man epic was Samoa Joe. Unfortunately though, that may now not be the case. Joe suffered a foot injury during his match with Rhyno this week, and it may be serious enough to keep him out of action for a while. WWE doctor Chris Amann told Sky Sports this week that he believes Joe has suffered a plantar fascia rupture.

Joe has been sent for an MRI to confirm whether that is the case or not and if it is the foot will need to be immobilized in a boot and he will need to use crutches to get around. The Destroyer was actually voted by fans to be Bayley's partner during the Mixed Match Challenge, however, with that starting in less than a week he was replaced by the runner-up in the vote, Elias.

If the injury is indeed as bad as it seems, then this will be a huge blow for Joe. There is no clear favorite for the Royal Rumble winner this year, and the former NXT Champion may have been one of the favorites to win the bout. Judging by what he said on Raw this past week, he was also about to enter into a top rivalry with John Cena. Sadly, if he's out for a period of time that may all have to go on the back burner for now.
