They say bad things often happen in threes, and that appears to be the case with the WWE and knee injuries lately. Last week, it was Big Cass messing up his knee during a match on Raw that required surgery that will keep him out of action for nine months. Then, over the last few days, both Samoa Joe and Xavier Woods also suffered knee injuries.
According to PWInsider, Samoa Joe injured his knee over the weekend at a house show in Jonesboro, Arkansas during a match against John Cena (a match that he lost). The injury meant the WWE had to change their plans for Raw last night as they originally planned to have a Joe vs. Cena match on the show.
At this point, Joe is expected to be out at least four weeks which, at this time, looks to put a return for No Mercy on Sept. 24, 2017, just slightly out of reach. And as hot as Joe has been lately, you wouldn’t want to rush him back before he is fully healed just to see him do more damage to himself.
As for Xavier Woods, Wrestling Inc reports he suffered an injury to his knee during a WWE live event in Texarkana, Arkansas last night.
The New Day were facing Breezango and SmackDown Live Tag Team Champs The Usos in a three-way tag team match. Woods apparently went for a jumping DDT, but he pushed off the wrong way and his knee buckled. The injury was serious enough at the time for the referee to throw up the “X” and call the match.
Woods was not able to leave on his own and was helped to the back by his teammates Big E and Kofi Kingston as well as WWE Doctor Chris Amann.
While it looked like a bad injury to people in attendance, there has not been any word from the WWE regarding the severity of the injury or if Woods will miss any time.
With two other healthy members of the team, Woods’ injury shouldn’t affect any plans the WWE had upcoming for The New Day, but they are obviously best as a threesome, and we hope Woods doesn’t have to be out for very long.
