Every once in a while, something happens during a wrestling event that makes you believe it is real. That it isn't part of the show and it is a case of the performer "shooting." It might be someone letting loose on a promo where they say things they usually wouldn't or it could be a fight that gets too intense.

Moments like this have happened in WWE, ECW, WCW, and pretty much every wrestling promotion you can think of. We booted up the WWE Network and looked back at some of these instances. From there, we selected 10 that we fully believed were real when they happened, only to later discover that they were scripted.

10 Paige Insults Reid Flair

At the tail end of 2015, Paige was engrossed in a rivalry with Charlotte Flair over the Divas Championship. The feud got personal during a contract signing where Paige brought up a touchy subject. Paige said that Charlotte's baby brother didn't have much fight in him.

The reason that line was met with heavy criticism was because Charlotte's younger brother Reid passed away when he was just 25 years old. Ric Flair has come out and said the words made him cry. However, it was revealed that Charlotte pushed for the promo, proving it was scripted.

9 Shane Douglas Throws Down The NWA Title

Back when ECW was simply known as Eastern Championship Wrestling, Shane Douglas arrived and became known as "The Franchise." Douglas helped introduce and popularize hardcore wrestling. He was integral in making ECW what it ultimately became. It had to start somewhere and that was in a place nobody expected.

Douglas won a tournament to become NWA World Heavyweight Champion. He then threw the title down and said he didn't want to represent a "dead promotion." Douglas renamed it the ECW Title. Fans everywhere were stunned. Only Douglas, Paul Heyman, and Tod Gordon knew about this.

8 Brock Destroys Orton

Two of the biggest stars to come from WWE's old developmental territory OVW are Brock Lesnar and Randy Orton. They've only wrestled each other once and it was in the main event of SummerSlam 2016. That match got vicious and saw Lesnar dish out some astonishing punishment.

Near the end of the battle, Lesnar began laying into Orton with right hands. He did this to the point where Orton started bleeding profusely. With blood not being a common occurrence in WWE anymore, it instantly made fans believe it was legitimate. Apparently, this whole was planned.

7 Brian Pillman In ECW

At WCW SuperBrawl VI, Brian Pillman walked out of a match against Kevin Sullivan, who was the booker at the time. He even said, "I respect you, booker man," on his way out. All of a sudden, he was appearing on ECW television and solidified his "Loose Cannon" persona.

While in ECW, Pillman engaged in some wild moments. We got to see him badmouth WCW's Eric Bischoff, diss ECW's corporate officials, and nearly start riots that security had to intervene in. There was even a time when he threatened to expose himself on camera. Pillman played it off so well that you believed he was doing this for real.

6 Joey Styles Rant

In late 2005, former ECW commentator Joey Styles joined WWE as a full-time color commentator. He called it a dream come true. But things started turning sour because his play-by-play wasn't like by Vince McMahon, who preferred a storyteller. Styles was even removed from calling part of WrestleMania.

it all came to a head on the May 1, 2006 episode of Monday Night Raw. Joey Styles hit Jerry Lawler and then ranted on the stage. In his promo, he chastised McMahon, sports entertainment, WWE's commentary style, and more. This went so far that Styles was removed from WWE.com as a result.

5 Bret Hart Snaps

1997 was right around the time when WWE began exploring angles that blurred the lines between fiction and reality. Bret Hart was one of the pioneers as he played the role of a paranoid wrestler. That became especially true when he was cheated out of the Royal Rumble and boiled over on the March 17 edition of Raw.

Following a loss to Sycho Sid in a Steel Cage match, Bret Hart shoved Vince McMahon when he tried to interview him. Bret then went on a profanity-laced tirade about getting screwed and how unfair things in the WWE were. We weren't used to this kind of thing in 1997, so it felt very real.

4 Matt Hardy Returns

While Matt Hardy was out with an injury, his girlfriend Lita was on the road alongside one of his closest friends, Edge. Unbeknownst to Matt, the two began having an affair. The news broke to the world and Hardy was let go by the company shortly after. He started appearing in Ring of Honor and a few other independent promotions.

Edge and Lita became an on-screen couple and were headed to the ring one night. Edge got blindsided and attacked by someone. When the scuffle broke, we saw that it was Matt Hardy. Security rushed in to take him away, closing a segment that felt incredibly real. Of course, Matt had re-signed with WWE and started an intense feud with Edge.

3 Scott Hall Invades Nitro

Before the days of the internet informing us about every detail of wrestling news, things were way more shocking. On a faithful May evening in 1996, a generic match was happening on WCW Nitro. Fans were probably a little bored until they saw someone walking to the ring through the crowd.

That man was Scott Hall, who was known to fans as WWE's Razor Ramon. Hall spoke in his Razor accent as he talked about invading WCW and bringing the fight to them. It seemed like WWE was truly infiltrating WCW, though we'd come to learn that he had signed with WCW and would go on to form the nWo.

2 Pipebomb

After winning a number one contender's match, CM Punk announced that his contract with WWE was up. He promised to leave with the WWE Championship. He cost then-champion John Cena a match against R-Truth before heading up and sitting down crossed on the stage while wearing a "Stone Cold" Steve Austin shirt.

Punk proceeded to go on a rant that felt incredibly unscripted. He called Triple H and Stephanie McMahon an idiot and a doofus. He said things might be better after Vince McMahon was dead. He name-dropped former stars like Brock Lesnar and companies like Ring of Honor. He bashed WWE for not promoting like the top star he felt he was. It ended when his microphone got cut off. It helped spark interest in WWE again and as real as it felt, the whole thing was planned.

1 Talking Smack

Talking Smack was an awesome show that ran on the WWE Network where members of the Smackdown roster were interviewed. It often felt unscripted and like a place where guys could say whatever they wanted. One episode saw old rivals Daniel Bryan and The Miz as guests. Bryan noted that he respected the Intercontinental Title, but not the man holding it, which was Miz.

The Miz passionately laid into Bryan with one of the most intense promos you'll ever hear. Miz ran down Bryan for chastising him, saying he wrestled a safe style because he loves wrestling and wants to do it for as long as he can, while Bryan is retired due to his style. Things got so personal that Bryan walked off the set, but Miz continued. It's one of best promos in WWE history and it still feels like there was a lot of realness in what both men said.
