5 On-Screen Couples That Were Better Than Seth Rollins & Becky Lynch (& 5 That Were Worse)

WWE is attempting to find success by using the real-life relationship between Becky Lynch and Seth Rollins as part of the show. Rollins and Lynch were both top stars with incredible accomplishments long before they became an item. The couple started dating in early 2019 and went public with the romance in the spring. WWE would decide to utilize this as a way to create more interest in their angles.

10 Better: Randy Savage & Miss Elizabeth

WWE’s original couple of Randy Savage and Miss Elizabeth will be always known as the first successful romantic story of pro wrestling. Savage and Elizabeth won the hearts of fans by bringing their relationship to the on-screen product.

The intensity of Savage benefitted from Elizabeth bringing a sensitive touch with her quiet demeanor. Their wedding was the first of many weddings on WWE television, as others tried to follow in hopes of finding similar success. Elizabeth and Savage made each other far bigger stars.

9 Worse: Daniel Bryan & Brie Bella

Daniel Bryan and Brie Bella brought their real-life relationship to WWE. Bryan’s return to the ring in 2018 would see Brie teaming with him in a storyline against The Miz and Maryse.

Brie wanted one match teaming with her husband before her eventual retirement. Bryan and Brie did not make much of an impact together on WWE television. Total Divas was the better place for their romance to find success and Bryan was better on his own when wrestling.

8 Better: Spike Dudley & Molly Holly

An underrated couple on WWE television that saw both wrestlers benefiting from their time together. Spike Dudley broke away from his Dudley Boyz brothers while Molly Holly stepped away from her cousins Crash and Hardcore Holly to become a beloved couple.

Both underdog characters had fans rooting for them to get together. Spike even had a fun short program with Steve Austin during Austin’s heel run in 2001. The couple had great moments that stole the show during a time when the roster was loaded with talented stars.

7 Worse: Dolph Ziggler & AJ Lee

AJ Lee found her way into a few romantic storylines that made her a top character in WWE. The relationship with Dolph Ziggler lasted the longest, with Big E joining them as a small group. However, the chemistry between AJ and Dolph left a lot to be desired.

Lee became a significantly bigger star after breaking away from Ziggler and getting her run as the Divas Champion. Ziggler benefited more from the angle, but WWE never believed in him. Seth Rollins and Becky Lynch have already accomplished more together than this duo.

6 Better: The Miz & Maryse

The Miz and Maryse became an on-screen couple in 2016 despite dating for a long time prior to that. WWE teased putting together the couple in the past but plans never came to fruition. Miz pitched the idea for Maryse to return to WWE after a few years away as his valet.

Maryse helped Miz win the Intercontinental Championship and it sparked the best run of his career. Miz struggled for a few years until Maryse added the spark that was missing. The two found great success, culminating in a WrestleMania attraction match against John Cena and Nikki Bella.

5 Worse: Tyson Kidd & Natalya

The couple of Tyson Kidd and Natalya have been paired together a few times on WWE television in recent years. Natalya was the manager of Kidd and his tag team partner Cesaro in their most successful stint together.

WWE often used the angle of Kidd being jealous of his wife having a stronger fan base than him. Kidd’s injury ended any plans for the storyline and his in-ring career altogether. Regardless, the on-screen pairing of Kidd and Natalya failed to find much success together.

4 Better: Triple H & Stephanie McMahon

Triple H and Stephanie McMahon have been a real-life couple since the early 2000s. This run helped both become far bigger stars than they were before getting paired together.

Stephanie improved from a meek face character to a strong heel. Meanwhile, the journey for Triple H finally saw him become a legitimate main eventer after a few missed opportunities. The pair remains a charismatic act that Becky Lynch and Seth Rollins could benefit from feuding against.

3 Worse: Rusev & Lana

Rusev and Lana gained some success during the early stages of Rusev’s undefeated streak on the main roster. They worked well enough together to get Rusev a United States Championship reign along with a major WrestleMania match against John Cena.

Unfortunately, the past few years have seen Rusev and Lana fail to stand out. They, individually and collectively, lack the spark that once made them capable players. Rusev and Lana are barely appearing on television, with some fans forgetting they are even on the roster.

2 Better: Edge & Lita

Edge and Lita had arguably the best run together as an on-screen couple in WWE. The controversy behind the scenes involving their love triangle with Matt Hardy forced WWE’s hand after fans would heckle Edge and Lita both during their separate matches.

WWE would utilize the genuine fan disdain by having them double down and actually become an on-screen couple. Edge finally made the leap from mid-carder to successful main eventer during this run with Lita. Lita was not a fan of her character at the time, but she had a tremendous heel run.

1 Worse: John Cena & Nikki Bella

The real-life romance between John Cena and Nikki Bella was a great selling point for Total Divas, but it never did much for the WWE product. WWE would give Cena his wish of working with Nikki to team against The Miz and Maryse in an important match at WrestleMania 33.

Cena proposing was the high point of the match and storyline. Unfortunately, it means nothing today since the couple split up a few months later. Cena wasted one of his final major WrestleMania matches and fans just didn’t care for the romance story between him and Nikki. Becky Lynch and Seth Rollins must hope to avoid having a similar run.
