Seth Rollins Didn't Expect The Shield To Break Up When They Did

Seth Rollins recently did an interview with the Sam Roberts Podcast and revealed that the break up of The Shield came out of nowhere.

Rollins said the move happened very quickly, that they weren't ready to be broken up as a group, and they actually didn't want to split up.

"It was thrust upon us very quickly. I don't know if that story [has] been told or not, but we were not prepared so well for the break up - 'yeah, you're going this way, you're going this way, you're going that way' sort of thing. Well, no, [they did not want to break up] we weren't ready for it. We thought we had a big babyface run in us, which is what we just started. We had two months with Evolution, having a couple of six-mans. We were like, 'alright, let's go! This is the idea we have to kind of push ourselves in that direction' and they were like, 'no! We need three single's stars and we need them right now.' And I was like, 'well, if it's going to be anybody, [there is] no better time than when we were on top of the world, so it worked really well and I was hesitant at first because I didn't really see it that way, myself as the bad guy of the group. But once it was kind of laid out and the ball started rolling in my head, I was like, 'okay, this is definitely something I can slide into' and it worked out quite well." Rollins said they really thought they would be able to put together a long successful run with one another, but the WWE broke them up because they wanted to go with three star wrestlers instead of a single group. While The Architect wasn't happy at first, he does admit that it worked out for the best in the end, even though he had to become a bad guy.

The Shield had a nice little run from 2012-2014, but looking back now, it has certainly worked out for Rollins as well Romans Reigns and Dean Ambrose. In order to have the group disband, the WWE had Rollins attack both Ambrose and Reigns with a chair and side with The Authority. Once that happened, Ambrose and Reigns moved on as single wrestlers.

Now that Reigns has become a very popular wrestler for the fans to hate, he's scheduled to wrestle John Cena at the upcoming No Mercy pay per view, which will be one of his biggest matches ever.

Reigns, Ambrose and Rollins been stellar over the past three years. They have all won the Heavyweight Championship belt after The Shield broke apart. They actually have a total of six world championships between the three of them, which is pretty remarkable. The WWE definitely knew what they were doing when they decided to have The Shield break up.

The good news is that Ambrose reunited with Rollins this year in an attempt to help Ambrose in his attempt to win back the Intercontinental Championship from The Miz. During this year's SummerSlam, Rollins and Ambrose came together to defeat Cesaro and Sheamus in order to win the Raw Tag Team Championship.

Of course, now Rollins and Ambrose will have to defend the Tag Team belts against Cesaro and Sheamus when they face off on No Mercy, but most fans are hoping this is just the first step in a full-on Shield reunion.
